Daily WTF – Retired British man drinks at over 100 pubs in record-breaking bar crawl
What does retired life look like to you? For 69-year-old David Clarkson, a UK ex-pat living in Australia, his ideal time spent while retired is in a pub. That’s why he decided to break a world record, drinking at 120 pubs within a 24-hour period. Clarkson SMASHED the previous record of 99, which was set by a pair of young Aussies in December. The retired accountant says his life is basically travelling, drinking, and looking at spreadsheets. He seems happy, so good for him!
Daily Did You Know – Easy way to help the Halton Police find your stolen vehicle
You can help the Halton Police find your car after it gets stolen. Auto thefts continue to be a problem in Halton, and as much as you and the police work hard on preventing it, there’s always the possibility that your car gets stolen. Last May, the HRPS teamed up with local auto dealerships for Project Oxygen. It offers a service that allows vehicle owners to hide third party tracking devices within their vehicles. If your car gets stolen, and as long as it’s within a well-hidden/hard-to-reach place, the tracking device can help officers track down the car before it’s gone for good. Since the campaign launched 11 months ago, at least 86 vehicles have been recovered by Halton Police thanks to these trackers. Project Oxygen will continue for another year! Get one put in your car ASAP!
Milton’s John Tonelli Sports Centre parking lot going under construction
The parking lot at the John Tonelli Sports Centre will be out of commission for a few months. Starting Monday, crews will be working on a number of improvements. The plan is for it to be ready by Canada Day, just in time for scheduled summer programs to start up.
Mysterious object that hit Florida man’s roof was part of the International Space Station
We have confirmation on a mysterious object that fell from the sky and through a Florida man’s roof. At the time of the incident, it was believed this thing came from outer space. Thing is, it wasn’t a space rock or anything, it was a man-made piece of metal. The running theory was it was part of a shipment of old batteries that were being jettisoned from the International Space Station. They would have a controlled re-entry into the atmosphere and burn up. This theory has been confirmed, and yes, the re-entry was not as controlled as expected. This led to a 1.5lb piece of metal flying through a man’s roof. Good news, no one was injured, and there are no other reports of batteries hitting other people, so all’s well that ends well… Just don’t look up!
Raptors’ Jontay Porter banned from NBA for betting on games
A Toronto Raptors player has been banned for life from the NBA. Why? He was gambling on basketball. Jontay Porter, who was a bench/role player for the Raps in one of their worst seasons ever, gambled 13 times on NBA games. He even bet on the Raptors to lose while playing for them. In total, he made about $20,000 in net winnings and is now banned for life from the league. For reference, he made over $2 million over three years as a player. He lost out on being a millionaire for life for just $20,000 in gambling money… Jontay Porter is an ALL-TIME DUMMY. Yeesh. Hopefully he gets help for what is clearly a gambling problem, because this is just sad.
Taylor Swift set to release a new album tomorrow
Get ready for Taylor Swift to be back in the headlines after this week. When we all wake up on Friday, we will be in a world where Taylor Swift has released a brand new album. ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ is the new name, and unlike her last few releases, this one is entirely brand new. She’s spent the last few years recreating her old albums, taking back control of her music over labels and producers who owned the rights to her songs. Now, in less than 24 hours, Taylor will have another album that is guaranteed to be at the top of the charts immediately. She’s the biggest name in music, who is still on the biggest concert of all time. This is like if Michael Jackson released Bad while still touring the world following Thriller. She produces hit after hit after hit. If you thought the media coverage was bad recently, it’s about to get cranked up to 11. Get ready!
‘Timmie’s za?!’ Canadians react to Tim Hortons adding pizza to its menu
Have you tried the Tim Hortons pizza yet? In case you missed it, Tim Hortons announced earlier this week that they will be adding flatbread pizza to their menus. Those launched yesterday, and the reviews are in… Believe it or not, people are saying they aren’t bad! I tried to get one yesterday, but I went too early. I ended up with my usual coffee and a Farmer’s Wrap, but I’ll get one eventually. I’m actually surprised, though. Timmies ‘Za = solid?! Who would have thought?
Uber’s lost-and-found items released
Uber has released their annual list of the weirdest items left behind in their vehicles, and there are some shockers! Traditionally, people are leaving behind phones, wallets, jewelry… But what about a toupee? Someone left behind a live turtle… Also on this list, we have a jar of oysters and a container with live spiders. So, just know, Uber drivers are used to finding things left behind in their vehicles, and you shouldn’t be ashamed about asking if they found your phone… They probably have it, along with a rat skeleton, ceramic cat, and a Beyoncé fold-up fan… What a collection.
Travis Kelce Confirms He’ll Host ‘Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?’
Travis Kelce has had quite the run these last 14 months. He’s won back-to-back Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs, he’s officially dating Taylor Swift, and he’ll now venture into the world of television game shows! Kelce has confirmed that he will he host the new TV show, ‘Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?’ It’s a spin-off from ‘Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?’ And it’s a good thing they put this celebrity spin on it, because I just cannot confirm if Travis Kelce is or isn’t smarter than a ten-year-old… His new game show will be on Amazon Prime Video – no released date has been announced.
