How much is your stomach costing you?
A recent poll found the average person makes at least two grocery trips a week, and spends roughly $162 across that span. However, it found that people will spend an extra $26 per trip if they do their grocery shopping on an empty stomach!
Are you someone who avoids shopping on an empty stomach, or does it not cross your mind?
Let me know!

ICYMI – Measles in Milton
I might be singing to the choir when I tell you to get yourself and your children vaccinated! Measles have been reported in Milton. It comes with a long list of symptoms:
- fever
- cough
- runny nose
- red eyes
- sleepiness
- irritability
- small, white spots on the inside of the mouth (Koplik Spots)
- a red blotchy rash that first starts on the face and spreads down the body, arms, and legs
Halton Region is warning of possible spreading, saying anyone who was at the Milton Trails Medical Clinic on April 2nd and April 5th, as well as the Milton District Hospital Emergency Room on April 4th, could be at risk. If you have any of the symptoms, go get yourself checked out.
Daily WTF – Two-storey house towed through San Francisco bay after being asked to move
A two-storey house was seen floating across the San Francisco bay recently. Thing is, the home wasn’t lost to sea, it was actually a houseboat that had been evicted. It was to leave its previous location at the Redwood City Marina. It found a new spot to set up shop further down the coast line, and so it ventured its way across the bay. Photos and videos of the moving day went viral online, as this houseboat looks like your typical suburban home floating on water. All reports say it eventually arrived at its location without any issues, but if you thought your moving day was stressful, imagine having to account for the tide! No thanks!
What is Suno AI? The music generator making waves
Thursday at our office was quite the day as we all gathered around our computers and messed with a new artificial intelligence-fueled music generator. It’s called SUNO, and all you need to do is give the site a one sentence descriptive prompt on what kind of song you’d like. It then gives you a completely original song with coherent lyrics and all. I asked for a jingle for our radio station that I could play for you, and it spat back a two-minute long song all about our station. Here’s a clip:
Sounds like a K-Pop song! It’s incredible. I expect a lot of today will be messing with it even more, it’s kind of addicting.
Daily Did You Know – Milton tennis court will close for improvements
If you’re a local tennis player, you might have to find a new court this spring. The Town of Milton says they’ll be closing down the tennis courts at Optimist Park next week. It won’t be for long, they just need to get through phase one of improvements. Phase two will take place at the end of summer, potentially beginning of fall. There are several tennis courts around town, so if you want to play this spring, you can head to the courts near the Bronte Meadows Park or at Rotary Park in the mean time.
Group of eight wins $1 million, including three locals
It might be time for you to start buying lottery tickets with your coworkers. A group of eight recently won $1 million together. The group includes three Halton residents, and they will all split the winnings equally. Their plans range from travel to saving to buying a boat. And in case you’re wondering, $1 million split eight ways is $125,000 – so not too shabby!
The rain will continue for just a little bit longer…
You know the saying, “April showers bring May flowers!” Well, we should be getting lots of flowers next month as this storm is expected to continue for another day or so. Environment Canada says that when it’s all said and done, we’ll have had 50mm of rain. Not to be a middle-aged dad about it, but boy did our grass need it. Everything has gotten so green around town, it’s kind of nice to see… even if the weather has been crummy because of it. Are you okay with the rain – or are you getting excited for the sunlight? We should see the sun by Monday, so hold on! We’ll get through this together!
You can now get a No Name phone plan from Loblaws
If you’re looking for a new phone plan, a new provider has thrown their hat into the mix: Loblaws! Yes, Galen Weston is looking for more of your money, and he’s doing it in a new fashion. They’ve launched a No Name phone plan, using the bright yellow No Name brand. No Name Mobile will follow a pre-paid plan model, with plans ranging from $19 to $50. So, if you’re tired of Bell and Rogers stealing all of your money, why not switch your plan over to another company that is facing for overcharging you… I will say, $50 for more than 100+ GB of data is a pretty solid deal.
Margot Robbie to produce Monopoly movie
Margot Robbie is REALLY into the idea of turning board games and children’s dolls into movies. Reports say she is now setting her sights on a Monopoly movie. It’ll be centered around the classic board game, and is expected to have some fun twists. This comes after Robbie recently starred in the massively successful Barbie movie last summer. No plot points for the Monopoly movie have been officially released. Hopefully it doesn’t capture the true essence of the board game, because if that happens, a lot of people will start watching it with friends before freaking out, flipping over a table, and leaving before it’s finished… and that’s not a great business model for a film.
NYC to look at birth control for rats to combat rodent population
New York City is looking to take a page out of Toronto’s playbook to help deal with an ongoing issue. Months ago, it was reported that Toronto was going to use birth control to help limit the pigeon population in the city. It seems the idea has intrigued NYC officials, as the Big Apple is now looking to use the same method to limit their rat population. To be fair, there are a lot of rats in New York City, to the point where they’re almost expected to be seen by tourists at this point. The war on rats continues for New York, and it doesn’t seem like they’ll be winning anytime soon.
Thousands of Ford Broncos —OJ Simpson’s infamous getaway car — recalled same day he dies in odd coincidence
OJ Simpson has died at the age of 76, and regardless of how you feel about the man, you can honestly say that his name will forever be synonymous with Ford Broncos. Back in the 90s, following the murder of his wife and her friend, OJ Simpson went on a very slow police chase in a white Ford Bronco. This moment on television was reportedly watched live by roughly 95 million people. Simpson’s passing yesterday came on the same day that Ford recalled thousands of their popular SUV, marking one of the most amusing coincidences we will ever see. So, if you’re like myself and you own a Ford Bronco, go get it checked out by the dealership. Seriously, what are the odds?
