What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Hundreds of elite cyclists coming to Milton for major event
We are one day out from Milton becoming the hub of cycling once again. The Tissot UCI Track Nations Cup will bring more than 300 elite athletes to town as they all make one last attempt to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games this summer. The action starts tomorrow at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre and it runs all weekend long. Tickets are available.
Daily WTF – 58-year-old grandmother of 12 breaks world planking record after holding position for more than 4.5 hours
Congratulations to 58-year-old DonnaJean Wilde for being in better shape than quite literally all of us. The Canadian woman held herself in a planking position for just over four hours and thirty minutes. To prepare for the record breaking attempt, she says she was planking up to three hours every day. She first got into it 12 years ago after breaking her wrist, meaning she couldn’t lift weights and had a hard time running. Now, she’s a record holder. Can’t wait to give planking a try later today and see just how out of shape I truly am… Congrats, DonnaJean!
‘Why do my eyes hurt?’ Searches about eye injuries see massive spike amid solar eclipse
It seems that not everyone followed the rules during Monday’s solar eclipse. For months, myself and other broadcasters begged you to buy eclipse glasses so that you could enjoy the experience carefree. Turns out, people decided to look at the eclipse with their bare eyes anyway. Online searches regarding eye injuries saw a massive spike this week. People are asking about pain in their eyes or why their vision has gotten so poor all of a sudden. If you’re in this boat, I hate to say it (not really) but I told you so! Go get your eyes checked… It’s for your own good.
Measles in Milton
I might be singing to the choir when I tell you to get yourself and your children vaccinated! Measles have been reported in Milton. It comes with a long list of symptoms:
- fever

Halton Region is warning of possible spreading, saying anyone who was at the Milton Trails Medical Clinic on April 2nd and April 5th, as well as the Milton District Hospital Emergency Room on April 4th, could be at risk. If you have any of the symptoms, go get yourself checked out.
I ate a lot of Loonie dogs at the Jays game on Tuesday
So, I’ve been off this week. I booked vacation days that allowed me to sleep in following some late nights on Sunday and Tuesday. We went to the Blue Jays game on Tuesday, and it was Loonie Dog Night! I went in expecting to eat at least seven of these things throughout the game… I ended up with nine! That’s a modest contribution to the 57,315 hot dogs that were eaten across the stadium. Happy to help!
Nationwide Insurance announces Wacky Pet Names finalists
When you give your pet a name, it’s meant to be out of love. This living creature will be my companion over X amount of years, and I will call this friend this. Sometimes the names are obvious: a white cat is snowball, a spotted Jack Russell dog is Spot, a St. Bernard dog is Beethoven. But sometimes, the pet names are also a way to add creativity into your life. Enter Nationwide Insurance, who are holding a contest for wacky pet names. They announced their finalists, and they include a dog named Mr. Pizza Puff, a cat named Car Alarm, a rabbit named Thor Odinbun, God of Bunder, among others. You can vote online for your favourite wacky pet name, with the winners being announced next week.
‘Power Couple’ Wins $2M Lottery Prize After Man Accidentally Buys 2 Tickets with the Same Numbers
Talk about a power couple! A Maryland man saw the Powerball lottery shoot up past $1 billion recently and he decided to test his luck. Thing is, he was unlucky in that he accidentally purchased the same lottery ticket twice. What would usually be a waste of money for the vast majority of humans ended up being the opposite. The anonymous man had his unlucky purchase turn into the luckiest purchase he could have possible made, as his double ticket was a winner. He won $1 million twice! The man and his wife now plan to invest their winnings, and will likely be set for life if that’s the case. Good for him!
Rare copy of comic featuring Superman’s first appearance sells for $6 million at auction
If you are a collector, you might want to check to see what pot of gold might be hiding in your drawers, crawlspace, and closets. I can’t imagine you’d have this, though: someone sold a copy of the first edition of Action Comics, which features the debut of Superman! It was taken to an auction in New York recently. The price kept going up and up, and has now officially been sold for $6 million. Hailed as the most important comic ever published, it’s now the most expensive comic book ever purchased. There’s believed to be just 100 remaining out of the 200,000 that were published back in 1938. Would you read it if you bought this comic? Or is it going in a glass case behind lasers? Probably the latter, right?
Someone is selling a bag of “high-quality” air from the same room Beyoncé was in
A Toronto resident is trying to get rich quick, as they’ve collected air from a room that Beyoncé was in, and are selling the plastic bag online. The listing is online and is going for the low, low price of $5. Sounds reasonable, actually! Gotta love the creativity in doing something so weird, and yet, someone will buy this! Not me, probably not you, but somebody!
The biggest mistake men make on dating apps revealed — and the simple way to fix it
If you are a man who is struggling with finding the perfect match online, it might come down to your interests. A study was done on dating apps, and it found that a very common male interest is actually detracting people away from your profile. The biggest turn-off for women, on average, was an interest in sports. These women were more interested in other topics, including: travel, music and grabbing a coffee. They recommend to men to list hobbies other than the sports you watch, saying those sports could be hampering your chances more than helping. This doesn’t mean stop watching sports or lie about enjoying sports, but you don’t need to list it on a dating app. What do you think? Is that reasonable or does it come across as restrictive? Let me know!
