The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has arrested multiple suspects in relation to an auto theft investigation in Oakville.
In late March 2024, the HRPS began investigating a suspect wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for homicide charges related to the shooting deaths of two teenage boys in Montreal that took place in July 2022.
On Friday, March 29th, a search warrant was executed at a residence in the area of Dundas Street West and Bronte Road in Oakville. At that time, five male suspects were taken into custody, including the man wanted by Montreal police.
At the residence, police also located stolen items and tools commonly used in the commission of auto thefts, including several reprogramming and relay devices, and seized a stolen BMW.
A 19-year-old Oakville man was arrested by the HRPS on the strength of the Canada-wide warrant and was turned over to homicide investigators from Montreal police to face charges. The HRPS has not yet charged this suspect in relation to offences committed in Halton, and cannot publicly identify them due to their age at the time the homicide offences were committed.
Police cannot identify any of the other adults charged because it may lead to the identification of the associated youths charged.
As a result of the investigation and the items located through the execution of the search warrant, the following charges have been laid.
A 16-year-old Montreal boy has been charged with the following:
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- Theft of motor vehicle (three counts)
- Failure to comply with Release Order
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of automobile master key
- Possession of break in instruments
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (three counts)
A 20-year-old Montreal man has been charged with the following:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle (three counts)
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (three counts)
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of break in instruments
- Possession of automobile master key
- Dangerous operation (two counts)
An 18-year-old Montreal boy has been charged with the following:
- Theft of motor vehicle (three counts)
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (three counts)
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of break in instruments
- Possession of automobile master key
A 21-year-old LaSalle, QC man has been charged with the following:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of break in instruments
- Possession of automobile master key
- Fail to comply undertaking (two counts)
- Fail to comply probation
Two of the four suspects charged by the HRPS were on various forms of release stemming from previous charges.
