The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has arrested a man following an attempted home entry.
On Tuesday, April 2nd, at roughly 3:00 p.m., officers responded to the area of Speers Road and Dorval Drive in Oakville for a report of a man attempting to enter a residence. The man reportedly rang the doorbell and attempted to push the door open to enter the residence when the homeowner answered.
When the man was unsuccessful, he fled. He reportedly made his way down the street, where he entered an unlocked parked vehicle located at another residence. He rummaged through items within the vehicle before being confronted by the owner. Officers located the suspect a short distance away.
No weapons were seen during these incidents, and no physical injuries were sustained.
As a result of investigation, 32-year-old Hector Santos Portillo of no fixed address has been charged with the following:
- Break and Enter
- Theft Under $5000
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
