What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Dog named Blue needs your help
A few months ago, Fur-Ever Able Dog Rescue took in a miniature bulldog named Blue. He had suffered a broken leg with his previous owner, which healed over without surgery. However, it seems he’s experiencing issues and tests are being done to figure what is happening. It’s believed that he may be dealing with neurological issues that are affecting movement in the same leg that he broke. The local rescue organization is hoping to raise money to help pay for the tests and potential procedures.
Daily WTF – Rescued baby hedgehog turns out to be something else
We’d like to think we’d risk it all to save someone, and that includes animals! In the UK, Lower Moss Nature Reserve and Wildlife Hospital were contacted by a concerned resident. They had come across what they believed to be an abandoned baby hedgehog. The person gathered the hoglet, took it home, gave it all the TLC it needed, including a place to rest and some food to eat. Thing is, it wasn’t a hedgehog. It wasn’t even alive. It was the fluffy bobble from someone’s toque! The animal charity had a good laugh and they said their hearts melted when realizing that someone so blindly cared for an injured animal, they didn’t realize it wasn’t an animal. It’s the thought that counts, right?
For 36 years, Halton Region has maintained top Credit rating
Good news for Milton residents – Halton Region has good credit! Yes, while you and I are working through paying off our credit cards, probably suffering damage to our credit, the Halton Region is passing with flying colours. This is through Moody’s Investors Service. For 36 years now, they’ve had a AAA credit score, which allows them to get great rates on infrastructure and other needs. Not too shabby! Time for me to get on their level… This credit score isn’t going to correct itself!
Daily Did You Know – Milton Public Library holding New Moon Celebration for end of Ramadan
The Milton Public Library has a busy spring planned, and coming up, they have a celebration for the end of Ramadan. A few days before Eid, the MPL is inviting the community their Sherwood branch. They’re holding their first-ever New Moon Celebration. There will be a bunch of activities and live music. It’ll be all-day on Saturday, April 6th.
Ice Cube’s Big3 extends $5M offer to Caitlin Clark
It was a good day for Caitlin Clark! One of the biggest names in college sports was reportedly offered $5 million by Ice Cube to play in his Big3 basketball league. She’d play against former NBA basketball stars in 3-on-3 action. It’s a major offer, and it’s a lot more than what she’d make as the upcoming 1st overall pick in the WNBA draft. A spokesperson says she could potentially up to $3 million a year with a WNBA contract and sponsorships, but it’s not equaling the offer from Ice Cube. There is speculation that she could play in both leagues, as most WNBA players also play basketball overseas during the offseason. We’ll see if that actually happens. If she can play in both, there’s a chance that Caitlin Clark will be making eight figures playing professional sports… And that’s incredible!
What Is A ‘Hush Trip’?
A new trend has blown up since the beginning of the pandemic. The last several years, people have been going on “hush trips.” What are those? Great question! A hush trip is a secret vacation that one goes on where they continue working remotely wherever they go. Their bosses don’t know where they are, and have no idea they even left. This is something that has become fairly common for those who work remotely. I won’t say their name, but I have a friend who does this fairly often. He still gets his work done, and also gets to see his Pittsburgh Penguins play home games every once in a while. Have you gone on a hush trip before? Would you go on one moving forward? Let me know!
Huge explosions from the sun may add a ‘great show’ to solar eclipse
We might get a fun show during the upcoming solar eclipse! Experts say the sun has recently been giving off solar flares. These little explosions of light and energy range in size and intensity. They say that with how regular they’ve been the last few months, it’s possible that it could happen while the sun is being blocked out by the moon! On April 8th, the sun will pass by the moon, creating totality for communities in the area, including Hamilton, St. Catherines, and Kingston. Before and after this happens, the solar flares could be creating a little light show for people wearing the solar eclipse glasses. There’s just a slight chance this happens, but fingers crossed we get lucky!
Bruce Springsteen Movie Starring Jeremy Allen White in the Works
In what might be one of the greatest potential castings of all time, actor Jeremy Allen White is in talks to play singer Bruce Springsteen in a biopic movie. You’ll know him from TV shows Shameless and The Bear. He also recently starred in The Iron Claw, portraying one of the von Erich brothers alongside Zac Efron. We’re in a bit of a biopic renaissance right now, with Remi Malik as Freddie Mercury, Taron Egerton as Elton John, Austin Butler as Elvis – heck, even Timothée Chalamet will be in one, playing Bob Dylan! No timeline on the Springsteen movie has been shared, but it’s safe to say that Jeremy Allen White would crush it!
Wild turkey survives after slamming into big rig’s windshield on southwestern Ontario highway
You don’t see this every day: a wild turkey managed to slip onto a highway in Ontario, and a big rig was the first vehicle it came across. Somehow, the bird managed to survive being hit by the 18-wheeler, it even crashed through the windshield of the truck. Reports say the bird wandered away as soon as it left the truck, so it appears to be okay. That reminds me, I saw a turkey in Milton on Wednesday afternoon! It was crossing the street on Tremaine Road, just south of Steeles Avenue. If you’re in the area, keep an eye out for turkeys. Your windshield will thank me.
The Simple Key To Happiness: Hydration
They say that money doesn’t buy happiness, but it should does buy water, which is apparently the same thing. Researchers have found a link between hydration and positive moods. A survey out of New York found the most common way to boost moods is drinking water. 36% of respondents say that whenever they’re feeling down, they drink a glass of water. What’s more interesting is that it appears to be working, as 80% of the respondents who drank more than ten glasses of water a day also felt that it was important to find joy in the small things. Just 48% of the respondents who drank less than one glass of water a day shared this sentiment. Why is this? Well, it comes down to living life hydrated versus dehydrated. When you’re in need of hydration, you’re more likely to suffer from low energy and headaches. This can lead to irritability, frustration, and anxiety. So, if you’re in need of a boost, just look to good ol’ H2O!
