Three Hamilton men have been arrested and charged following an investigation into a vehicle theft in Burlington.
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) says that on Wednesday, March 13th, at roughly 7:10 a.m. the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) responded to a report of a Ford Explorer that had been stolen from a residence driveway in the area of Burloak Drive and Sutton Drive in Burlington.
Officers were able to locate the stolen vehicle in the area of Appleby Line, as it was followed by an F 150. The HRPS initiated a brief pursuit which was discontinued for reasons of public safety.
At roughly 7:15 a.m., a report came in of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Guelph Line and Upper Middle Road in Burlington, involving a Ford F150 and Ford Explorer. Five occupants associated to both vehicles attempted to flee the area; however, three were arrested at the scene.
Prior to police arrival, the fourth suspect brandished a knife and punched the driver of a silver Volkswagen Jetta who was stopped near the scene of the accident. The suspects stole the vehicle and fled the area. The Jetta driver suffered minor physical injuries and was transported to a local hospital for assessment. Both vehicles involved in the accident were confirmed as stolen. Police are continuing to search for the silver Volkswagen Jetta and two outstanding suspects.
34-year-old Scott Guitar of Hamilton has been charged with the following:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
36-year-old William Hannah of Hamilton has been charged with the following:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (2 Counts)
48-year-old Shane Martin of Hamilton has been charged with the following:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
All three accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
