Do you procrastinate?
Researchers at The Ohio State University have found out why exactly we delay tasks rather than tackling them head on. It turns out, it depends on how you view things – both positively and negatively.
People use what researchers call ‘Valence Weighing Bias’ when making decisions. Essentially, we weigh positive and negative attitudes towards a task. If the negatives win, we procrastinate – it’s that simple!
Researchers found that negative thinkers are more likely to procrastinate. That said, it’s possible to change this behaviour by being more positive!
Have you done your taxes yet? It’s time to focus on the good things about doing your taxes!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Federal Court takes Milton’s side in CN Hub case
Some big news for Milton residents! The Federal Court of Canada ruled in favour of Milton and Halton when looking at the case of the CN Intermodal Hub. The Court found “the decisions of the Federal Minister and Cabinet failed to fulfill their duty to protect human health…” Which is pretty serious stuff. What’s next? Following this decision, the project cannot proceed without going back to the Federal government for reconsideration, including a full evaluation of the effects of the project. That doesn’t mean it’s necessarily over and that Milton won, but it’s a positive for residents in the area.
Daily WTF – World’s oldest person, Maria Branyas Morera, celebrates 117th birthday
Happy belated birthday to Maria Branyas Morera! She’s the oldest person on the planet, and she celebrated her 117th birthday yesterday. Morera was born in San Francisco in 1907 – but returned to Spain with her family at eight years old, where she’s remained ever since. Guinness World Records says that, aside from hearing and mobility issues, she’s pretty dang healthy! She’s so healthy that researchers are studying her to find the secret to a long life. Let’s all wish Maria a big ol’ happy birthday – and let’s hope we can wish her another one in 364 days.
Daily Did You Know – Local charities and non-profits can hold events at Woodbine Mohawk Park for free

They launched the ‘Woodbine Cares Community Corner’, which allows non-profits to gather and get the word out about their cause. It’s available for free on race nights at the horse track, which run throughout the year. All you need to do is book your spot!
70-year-old has eaten over 34,000 Big Macs in his lifetime: ‘People thought I’d be dead by now’
Do you have something you like to eat every day? I eat a bowl of cereal pretty every day. I like how easy cereal is, but I admit, there are probably healthier things for breakfast. I should also probably eat breakfast earlier than 2pm, but that’s how a radio morning show has affected my diet. Anyway, one guy who seemingly eats the same thing every day is Don Gorske. The 70-year-old has eaten more than 34,000 Big Macs in his lifetime, and he’s shown no signs of slowing down. He holds the record for most Big Macs eaten in a lifetime, and he added to the record by eating 728 burgers in 2023. He eats two a day, skips the fries, and walks six miles a day to burn off pounds. He’s healthy as a horse, he says, so there ya go. Maybe it’s time to start a new diet!
Airports want to scan your face to make travelling easier
How would you feel if all you had to do to get on a plane and fly away is be yourself? Airports are looking to include facial recognition in the travel process. It’s currently available in Vancouver, and Pearson in Toronto has started using the technology for lounges. You’d just need to get your face scanned, and off you go. This has caused some concerns for privacy, but others are ecstatic if it means spending less time waiting in the airport. Where do you stand?
Here’s the point where employees zone out in work meetings
For an employee, there’s not much more frustrating than having to sit in a work meeting. For a lot of people, their job is nothing but meetings. But how much do workers actually pay attention in these meetings? A study was done and found that employees start to zone out, on average, after 27 minutes in a virtual meeting. I give those people credit, because that’s about 25 minutes more than I can muster. The study also dove into screen fatigue and found that many people feel the need to step away from the technology. Sign me up – I’m ready to throw my phone into the abyss any minute now. Just give me the word – and this thing is GONE.
Shred your documents and raise money for Crime Stoppers!
In case you didn’t know – Crime Stoppers is actually a non-profit! People assume it’s a part of the police, but they actually just help the police. They need funding to do what they do, including handing out rewards for tips. You can help with the funding by shredding some documents! If you have paperwork that you don’t need anymore, and you’re too nervous about putting personal documents in the recycling, then attend a shred event at the Halton Police headquarters! It takes place on May 4th, starting at 9am.
Dune: Part Two premiered at Quebec palliative care home to fulfil man’s dying wish
This is a sweet story. A man in palliative care in Quebec was really looking forward to seeing Dune: Part Two in theatres. He was a big movie buff, but he was at the end of his life. He was not able to go to the theatres to see it. It was possible he might not even make it to the March 1st release date. The hospice got into contact with the film’s director after putting the man’s dying wish on Facebook. He agreed to allow the film to play in the palliative care home. His assistant flew to the Quebec town with the director’s laptop. The dying man then watched the movie alone in a room. Sadly, he was too weak to make it to the end of the movie, as he fell asleep and died shortly after. So, apologies for the punch to the gut this morning!
Here’s why bagged milk could eventually go away
Bagged milk is one of those things that is so normal for people in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes, but so foreign for everyone else in the world. Like, think about how weird it actually is? Why bags? Well, it comes down to measurements and at the time, bagged milk was easy to convert when switching from imperial to metric. It’s just kind of stuck around ever since. However, a food expert has taken to social media to discuss the future of milk bags. He says that with family sizes shrinking, and therefore milk consumption also shrinking, it’s highly possible that milk bags could start to be phased out to go for smaller containers. Smaller families and single adults are less likely to go through four litres of milk before they expire, and might prefer a one or two-litre carton. Not to mention, lactose-intolerance is a thing! Less demand, less need to produce them. Do you still buy bagged milk? Would you be sad to see them go away?
Jason Kelce has retired from the NFL
There’s now just one Kelce brother in the NFL. With Travis Kelce dating Taylor Swift, both he and his older brother Jason have become household names, even for non-football fans. Jason Kelce announced his retirement on Monday, ending his 13-year career. During the 45-minute speech, he touched on memories, both on and off the field. He’ll now be home for his three young children, and potentially watching more Taylor Swift concerts with his little brother. We all now collectively look towards Travis and wonder, “when is he gonna do the thing?” A retirement speech and a proposal – that’d be fun, right?
