Do you freeze your groceries?
A UK woman has gone viral for showing her strategy on how to save money at the grocery store. She buys in bulk and freezes absolutely everything!
Previously, Kate Hall says she’d make meals, and then freeze them. Now, she freezes the ingredients… All of them. She says the switch has led to her saving roughly $1300 annually at the grocery store. That’s more than $100 a month!
Is this something you do? Will you start doing it moving forward? Or will you buy the three-pack of lettuce and watch it go bad every week like the rest of us?
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Maple Season returning to Milton conservation areas
One of the best things about winter in Milton is returning to local Conservation Areas! At Mountsberg, visitors can enjoy Maple Town once again. It’s a great excuse to eat lots of sweets and learn about sap tapping season. Crawford Lake will have Sweet Water Season, which again, is a great way to learn about the process of making maple syrup. Maple Seasons starts March 2nd, and runs into April.
Daily WTF – Runaway dog picks winning lottery ticket
When my dog runs away, I just get immense anxiety that the worst is about to happen. For a woman in China, her runaway dog ended up picking out a winner! The woman only known as Lin says the dog pulled on the leash, got away, and ran into a nearby grocery store. While in the store, the dog grabbed a lottery ticket, leaving tooth marks on it. Abiding by the ‘you break it, you buy it’ rule, Lin bought the lottery ticket… and won $139! Not life changing, but definitely lucky regardless. How did she spend the money? By buying the dog some treats and luxury dog food. It’s time for me to lose my dog at Sobeys… I’m sure that’ll go over just as well…
Sing karaoke for charity at this Milton pub!
Sing for a Cause is coming back to Milton! The charity karaoke night will be at Ned Devine’s Irish Pub on March 20th. Attendees who want to sing their favourite tunes can spend $5 a song. If you’re too shy, you can also donate to have one of the professionals on hand sing the song for you! Money raised will help the Milton Community Resource Centre and their She Can! programs.
Daily Did You Know – The history behind Milton’s Chretien Street and Gosford Crescent
We’ve got a pair of streets with a slight connection. One is a former Prime Minister who helped ease tensions between Canada and Quebec, as well as a former Governor General of Canada who played a role in easing tensions between French and English settlers. We’ll have two more streets next week!
We might be saying goodbye to winter AGAIN
While last week brought us a sudden dumping of snow, this week might just taketh that all away. Things are expected to start warming up on Tuesday, with this week seeing highs around 7-8° Celsius. Saturday will drop down for one day, before shooting up to double digits next week. Enjoy the snow while it’s here, because the forecast says “it won’t be here for long.”
Campbellville woman wins big in lottery
We might live in a very expensive area of the country, but you can still do a lot with $1 million. Linnea Cain of Campbellville won some life changing money last month. She and her husband were blown away when the OLG app said they were big winners, and now they’re bonafide millionaires. The plan is to share the win with their family, have some fun while creating memories, and save some money for the future. Not a bad plan!
McDonald’s thrills snow bunnies with world’s only ‘ski-thru’ window
I’m sure people would love to see this come to Glen Eden or Blue Mountain. A ski hill in Sweden has what they called ‘the McSki’. It comes with a ski-thru, allowing people enjoying the slopes the chance to stay outside and get their meal. Thing is, this has been around since 1996, but has blown up in popularity the last few weeks due to TikTok. It does have an indoor seating area (with 170 seats) for those looking to get out of the cold, but they also have McCafe options for people wanting to stay warm with all of their skiing equipment on. Would you eat at a ‘McSki’ location?
Jason Kelce is trying to give back his now-famous luchador mask
Last week was a wild ride for Kansas City Chiefs fans. The team wins the Super Bowl on a Sunday, the team celebrate with a parade during the week. There was a tragic shooting, with 22 people injured and one woman dead. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have joined the list of people donating money to the cause. On the brighter side of the parade, it was Travis’ brother Jason Kelce making all of the headlines. The big offensive lineman was spotted wearing a Chiefs-inspired Rey Mysterio-esque luchador mask. He shared on his podcast that he just happened to find it on the ground, and while in a drunken stupor, the mask became a part of him for the rest of the festivities. Turns out, the mask is actually a lucky mask, and it belongs to 13-year-old Elijah Smith from Dallas, Texas. Kelce learned this – and has now vowed to return the mask back to Smith. I’d say it might smell worse after all the festivities, but I don’t know if a 300lbs drunk grown man smells any worse than a sweaty teenage boy. Parents of teenagers can agree on this, they’re both pretty equally gross.
Man claims $1 million lottery prize on Valentine’s Day, days after break-up, he says
A lot of lottery talk this morning. They say the best way to get over someone is to get under someone, and I disagree. I think winning a million dollars is the best way to get over someone. An unnamed man from Illinois got dumped just before Valentine’s Day. He was scared of being alone for the holiday, but what can you do, right? He went about life as normal, bought a scratch off lottery ticket… and won $1 million! He claimed the money on V-day and said that while he might not have the best luck in the love department, he’s definitely not unlucky.
The ‘Dorito Theory’ explained — and how it could help you break an addiction to social media
I want you to imagine that you’re eating a bag of chips. Let’s say, your favourite kind of Doritos. You eat one, it’s great. You eat a second, it’s great. You eat a third, it’s great. You finish the whole bag, enjoyed it all, but you’re still hungry. This is explained simply as the ‘Dorito Theory’ and it says that, for a lot of people, the joy of eating chips comes from the immediate taste. It’s the peak of the experience, and why you go back for more. This theory is being used on social media as well. The joy in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok, etc. all comes from the current post you’re on. You slide to the next post, and you get that shot of joy. And the next, and the next, and the next, so on and so forth. But once that app is closed, the joy is gone. Experts are saying that once you understand this, it could help you deal with things like social media addiction. You can eat all those Doritos, you can like all those IG posts, but at the end of the day, they’re empty calories, and won’t quite fill you up.
