If you’re struggling with money, you might also be struggling with your health!
A study says financial strain can lead to actual pain. It explains that stressful life events, particularly money struggles, can impact your body’s immune system. Those in constant financial strain were found to be 59% more likely to be in the high-risk health group just four years later.
Other notable stressors that have this kind of effect are caregiving responsibilities, bereavement, and divorce.
How stressed have you been about money lately? Has the rising cost of living impacted your health as well? Maybe you’re cool as a cucumber, both health wise and money wise. In that case, good for you!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Solar eclipse leads to rescheduling of upcoming PA Day
Your kids will now be staying home Monday, April 8th instead of Monday, April 22nd. The reason for the PA Day switch? THE MOON! Both the HDSB and HCDSB decided it was best to not have students busing home during the solar eclipse. There are traffic concerns, as well as the FACT THAT IT CAN BLIND YOU. So, now they’ll be home or in daycare that day. Worried about their eyes? Buy the eclipse sunglasses! Also, work from home that day and watch it together! Should be fun. Read more here…
Daily WTF – For $5 donation, RISPCA will put your ex’s name in a litter box
Love stinks, and so will your ex’s name! The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has announced a unique fundraiser. This Valentine’s Day, you can donate $5 and they will put your ex’s name in one of their litter boxes. So, if you discovered another man/woman or maybe you just had enough of their schtick, get back at your ex with what the shelter calls ‘RETRIPOOTION’. Good news – you don’t have to be the one who cleans it! That alone is worth the $5. Read more…
Share your thoughts on Conservation Halton’s new strategy
A lot of people have opinions – and those same people like to share said opinions. If you have thoughts on Conservation Halton’s watershed strategy, they want to hear from you! Another survey is being run until February 13th. It takes just a few minutes. It’s not often someone asks for your opinion on something that THEY are the experts on, so have fun! Read more here…
Daily Did You Know – Gift a free swim or skate this Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching. If you haven’t gotten your partner anything just yet, consider stopping by a town facility! The Town of Milton is holding a special promotion, similar to what they’ve done for Halloween. For $6, you get 10 coupons to skate or swim at local facilities. It might not be the most ROMANTIC present, but it’s a great cost efficient gift for someone with kids! So, if you’re looking for something for your partner, friend, sibling or coworker, here you go! Netflix slams into live events with $6.7B wrestling takeover of WWE’s Raw
The longest running weekly episodic television show will be heading to streaming in 2025. Netflix is taking a Steve Austin-esque punch at live programming with Monday Night RAW. The streaming leader has dipped their toe in live TV recently, with a ‘Love is Blind’ finale and a Chris Rock standup special that followed the Oscars slap. WWE makes out like bandits with this deal as well, making $6.7 billion (CAD) over ten years, which will fund the show and boost up those profits. It’ll also be the first time that RAW will be off traditional cable since its inception in 1993, which is pretty significant and a HUGE blow to cable television that relies A LOT on live sports. But hey, if this means I can watch Cody Rhodes and CM Punk team up against Vecna from Stranger Things and one of the masked guys from Squid Game, then sign me up! Read more here…
Oppenheimer’ dominates Oscar nominations
The nominations for the Oscars have come out! Oppenheimer came out on top, leading the way with 13 nominations. A lot of people feel that Barbie got snubbed, with director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie not being nominated. Ryan Gosling did get the name for Ken, which means we live in the funniest timeline. If you told me two years ago that Gosling playing a Ken doll would potentially get him an Oscar, I’d have laughed at you. But he was great in the movie, and the movie itself was my favourite of 2023. Killers of the Flower Moon also got some nods, including Scorcese and Lily Gladstone. Strangely enough, Leo was left off the board. Jimmy Kimmel will be the host – the Academy Awards will be on Sunday, March 10th. Read more here…
Cat adoption group rallies behind Buffalo Bills kicker
On Sunday, the Buffalo Bills had their season come to an end when they lost to Taylor Swift – I mean, the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bills have routinely lost to the Chiefs in the playoffs over the years, and they had a chance late to tie the game with a field goal. Kicker Tyler Bass, who’s usually pretty solid, biffed a kick and that was the game. Usually, fans in this situation take out all their frustration on the kicker. It’s KIND OF the plot for the first Ace Ventura movie, what with a kicker getting revenge after losing the Super Bowl for the Miami Dolphins. And while some fans DID take it out on Bass, other fans decided to treat him like a human. They’ve even gone as far as donating to his favourite cat rescue charity! Since Sunday’s missed kick, the Ten Lives Club has received over $150,000 of pledged donations. Will the donations magically bring the Bills to the Super Bowl? No. Will they ease the pain that a young Tyler Bass is feeling? Most definitely. A lot of sports fans need to be better humans, and this is a good start. Read more here…
The spring forecast is out for 2024 and here’s what to expect in Ontario
Look, I’m not going to say the people at The Farmers’ Almanac are some kind of oracles, but if we’re going to play along with Groundhog Day, we might as well hear what the humans have to say in terms of forecasting months into the future. Their Spring 2024 forecast is now available. It says that Ontario will experience a chaotic spring, with “seesaw” temperatures. They’re calling it a “Polar Coaster Spring.” Cheeky! Warm weather will be late across Canada, and Ontario especially will be hit with lots of stormy weather early on. Take this all with a grain of salt, considering the experts at Environment Canada don’t even like to forecast past a week or two, let alone months down the road. But hey, it’s nice to talk about spring… good or bad. Have you seen what it’s like outside? Yeesh. Read more here…
Here’s how much your partner expects you to spend on Valentine’s Day this year
Valentine’s Day might be the ‘Hallmark Holiday’, but it’s still a day that exists in modern life. If you’re in a relationship, you might required to get your partner SOMETHING. Consumer review site Trustpilot released their survey results, and they found that the cost of Valentine’s Day 2024 will average out to $157.52. Even worse, another report from Driver Research puts the total higher at $192. This takes into account dinner, drinks and gifts. If you’re unsure on whether or not YOU need to do all that, you might need to have a conversation with your partner. When all else fails, chocolate and flowers are your best friends. Read more here…
RESEARCH REVEALS UNUSUAL ITEMS BLOCKING UK PIPES
Hopefully you know by now, don’t flush random items down the toilet. You’re not even supposed to flush things like tissues and paper towel because, while they are paper, they’re not designed to break down the same way as toilet paper. That said, people still decide to flush stuff down the toilet all the time, whether it be children or people with the brains of children. A new survey out of the UK spoke with plumbers, and they shared their oddest blockages they’ve ever encountered. On this list, we have a tent, teeth, ANOTHER pipe, and sex toys, among others. Apparently plumbers are busier than ever and are having to turn away work due to an already high workload. SO, if you can, try not to flush your dentures down the toilet. Read more here…
