How do you feel about phone calls?
It seems the younger generations are TERRIFIED of them, particularly Gen Z. A study has found that a good number of Gen Zers have social anxiety that is affecting their ability to take and make phone calls.
90% instead opt to text.
It seems the fear comes from avoiding any kind of embarrassing moments. With texting, you can take the time to plan out a conversation and responses, but with a phone call, you’re put on the spot. It’s like you’re alone on an island and if you don’t know how to swim, you won’t make it.
What about you?
Do you hate talking on the phone – or is it second nature to you?
Let me know!

ICYMI – MCRC more than doubles ‘Fill a Crib’ goal
After filling 78 cribs last year, the MCRC wanted to set a goal this year that was attainable. They set it at 60, thinking nearly 80 was probably an outlier. Well, they more than doubled that goal. With each crib valued at $500, the Infant Food Bank was able to get roughly $65,000 in donations over the holiday season. These donations will go towards helping local families in need. Pretty cool! Daily WTF – Guinness World Records Has Suspended Bobi’s ‘World’s Oldest Dog’ Title
In 2023, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo in Portugal was named the World’s Oldest Dog. His name was Bobi, and he was reportedly 31 years old. Sadly, in the time since, Bobi has passed away. He seemed like a very sweet pup! However, there is controversy surrounding Bobi’s age. If you had a specific reaction when reading that Bobi was 31, don’t worry – you’re not alone. Veterinarians around the world called bull$#!%, and with there being issues surrounding Bobi’s documents and old pictures, Guinness has decided to suspend the title (and future submissions) until they get a conclusion. Sad to see a nice dog’s legacy get dragged through the mud, but that’s showbiz, baby. RIP to Bobi, and hopefully this gets figured out. Read more here…
Ontario investing $149,000 in Country Heritage Park
A nice local story! Country Heritage Park is getting nearly $150,000 in funding. Milton MPP Parm Gill says this will ensure the local park/local organization/general education area can continue helping the community. Nice to see these kinds of things get extra help. I don’t if you’ve looked around recently, but times are kinda hard right now! Anyone and everyone could probably use a few extra dollars. Read more here…

Say goodbye to Spicy P
As the days go by, we get further and further away from 2019. The Toronto Raptors won their NBA Championship that summer, led by Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry, Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka, Fred Vanvleet, Norm Powell – it was one heck of a team. And just under five years later, all that’s left is the lanky body of Montreal’s Chris Boucher. Pascal Siakam is the latest piece to be traded, getting dealt Wednesday afternoon to the Indiana Pacers (if he thought Toronto was cold, get ready). The Dinos will get a few 1st round picks, some depth pieces, and lots of sadness to see the true end of an era. Will RJ Barrett be the next face of Toronto basketball? Maybe, he is a local boy afterall! But will Milton and the rest of the GTA mourn for the loss of Spicy P? Definitely. Time moves forward, as it always does, and hopefully we see a repeat of 2019 soon enough. Read more here…
Duelling U.S. sandwich brands Jimmy John’s and Jersey Mike’s to expand in Canada
If you’re someone who thought ‘We need more sandwich shops in Milton’, you might be getting your wish! Jimmy John’s from the States has announced this week that they’ll be opening up a location within the GTA soon, and then eventually more across Canada. Their rival, Jersey Mike’s, then announced that they will do the same. We’ll eventually see 300 Jersey Mike’s stores across the country by 2034, which likely means Milton – or maybe Oakville or Burlington – will get at least ONE. Reviews are good for both brands, we’ll see if this is considered a success or the next Target. Read more here…
Martin Short and His Only Murders… Costar Meryl Streep Are ‘Just Very Good Friends,’ Clarifies Rep
My wife and I are big fans of ‘Only Murders in the Building’, and we just finally got around to season three! Meryl Streep is in the show this season, and she plays a love interest for Martin Short’s character. Their chemistry is great, and recently at the Golden Globes, the two were seen being very close. Is this a sign of a fling??? Apparently, this is not. It was clarified that the two successful actors are just really good friends, to which I say BAH HUMBUG. Let me live in fantasy land – where Martin Short and Meryl Streep are in a strange, late-in-life passionate romance. It’s January, it’s cold, and sometimes you just need something silly like this to get you through these winter days! Read more here…
Pauly Shore to star in Richard Simmons biopic
Yes, yes, all the way yes. This is the Pauly Shore comeback I never knew I needed. Images of Pauly Shore starring as Simmons surfaced on Wednesday, and the internet was fascinated with everything about it. That doesn’t include Simmons himself, as the fitness icon has denounced the casting and says he never gave approval for the movie. That’s sad, I get that, but I’m desperately needing Pauly Shore to crush this role. If we could get ‘The Weasel’ in Oscar-talks for next year, that’d be pretty rad. Just needs to shake some butter off those buns! Read more here…
Taylor Swift Conspiracy Theory Shot Down by ‘Argylle’ Director
People love conspiracy theories, and Swifties love Taylor Swift. When those two things combine, the internet becomes unstoppable. There’s a new spy movie coming out, called ‘Argylle’. Think James Bond with a bit of Archer. It stars Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, Bryce Dallas Howard, John Cena, and more. It’s reportedly based on a book that was written by a woman named Elly Conway. If you’ve never heard of Elly Conway, you’re not alone. She has virtually no online presence, which has led to a lot of sleuthing. People have surmised that Conway is a pseudonym for someone else, someone potentially more famous. With references to Taylor Swift apparently all over this movie/book, Swifties believe this could be a Taylor Swift-original! That conspiracy theory has since been shot down by the director, but that won’t stop people from speculating. Did Taylor Swift write a book that was instantly turned into a movie? Probably not. But if she did, would you be all that surprised? Read more here…
People are once again getting spammed by bizarre fake ads involving CTV host Mary Berg
Be careful with what you read online! Fake news, fake news, fake news. Since 2016, we’ve heard A LOT about fake news. Media literacy is a big deal, you have to know that where you’re getting your daily news from is a trusted and credited source of information. I say all this to say that people are seeing really weird ads all over social media platforms, particularly X/Twitter. CTV’s Mary Berg is at the centre of these ads, and they pose as fake news articles showing the television host/writer/cook getting into all kinds of trouble. Being “cancelled” or getting arrested for something. None of them are true! But they’re getting people to click on them, and that’s not good. These are reportedly phishing scams and you should avoid them. Why they’re being sold as advertisements on social media – that’s Elon Musk’s issue. That said, if I’m Mary Berg, this would be the ideal time to get away with SOMETHING devious. Read more here…
