Are you prepared for Blue Monday?
Each year, the third Monday of January is labelled as Blue Monday. It gets this name after a travel company determined this is when happiness levels are at their lowest.
Some say it’s just a marketing campaign, others use the day to remind people of valuable resources. Seasonal depression is a real thing, so why not take a “fake day” to talk about real things!
So, you ready for today? Doing anything to counter Blue Monday? Treating yourself? Petting a therapy dog? Anything else?
Let me know!
What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Here’s how drones will be used at Milton’s hospital
My favourite story from last week! You’ll see more drones in the sky, as Halton Healthcare has partnered with Drone Delivery Canada. These drones will transport samples between Milton District Hospital and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. They’ll use the helipad! Read more here…
Daily WTF – 87-year-old man is oldest to embark on record-breaking paddle down Mississippi River
Today’s Tom Sawyer is an 87-year-old man, it seems. Dale Sanders paddled for 87 days down America’s most famous river. He travelled 2,350 miles, and believe it or not, he’s actually done this twice! Sanders completed the task when he was 80, but it was never officially recognized. So, to mark his 87th birthday, the man went on the trek again. This time, he’s getting it recognized by Guinness, and it will hopefully be given the record soon. Read more here…

The Nostalgia-Inducing Trailer For Usher’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Is Here
It’s almost that time! It’s been a few months since it was announced that Usher will headline the Super Bowl halftime show. This will technically be his second performance at the big game, with his last one being rather forgettable. That said, this time he’ll be the headliner and people are looking forward to hearing his hits. A trailer was released late last week, check it out! Lotta nostalgia in that clip. Read more here…
Music-app Shazam has predicted who and what will breakout in 2024
If you’re someone who likes to be ahead of the herd when it comes to music, Shazam has you covered. If you don’t know, the app is able to tell the user the name and artist of the song that is currently playing. So, if you’ve ever wondered “What’s that song?” Shazam gives you that answer immediately. It’s now owned by Apple, and Apple has released their predictions for 2024. Using their data for the most ‘Shazamed’ songs, they believe Bloody Civilian, RIIZE, and Kenya Grace will have breakout years. There’s a list of 50 tracks (and artists) that could be the next big thing this year. You can listen to the Apple playlist here. If you’d rather go through the list yourself, you can read more here…
Standing-room flights could be the next frontier in budget travel
I heard this talked about on a podcast recently. It’s not necessarily a new concept, as I was able to find think-pieces that date back more than ten years. Could you imagine getting a standing-room ticket for a flight? How much would you pay for that ticket? How long would you be willing to stand for? While the idea is just that: an idea – it could be more than that in the future! If you’re hoping to save a few bucks on your next vacation, you might want to practice your calf raises… just in case! Mario Kart is the most stressful game on the market, according to study
If you’ve found your heart was racing a little more than Princess Peach was after that last Grand Prix, you’re not alone! A study was done, and it found that Mario Kart is the most stressful video game. It increases the heart rate of players by more than 32% within just half an hour of playing. I will say, as someone who attended college, it’s unclear if alcohol played a factor in the testing. Right behind the Nintendo racing game were FIFA, Call of Duty, and Fortnite. Wanna play? Infamous British Columbia ferries for sale on Facebook Marketplace
There are all kinds of things for sale on Facebook Marketplace, including MASSIVE SHIPS. You can buy three ferries that are reportedly very well known in British Columbia. The PacifiCat Explorer, Discovery, and Voyager, known as the Fast Cats, were built for use by B.C. Ferries in the 1990s. Thing is, these catamarans were famously over-budget and failed to meet expectations for speed or efficiency. In a weird twist, the ferries are actually currently owned by the Government of Egypt. They’ve decided to try to sell the boats before they scrap them. If you want to buy an absolute disappointment, if not three of them, you can find the listing on Facebook Marketplace. Have fun with THAT Messenger negotiation. Read more here…
What is ‘nose cover’ — and why are Gen Zers doing it in family photos?
If you’re a parent of a Gen Zer and you’re looking to get a family photo out at a dinner or something, you might have a hard time getting their face in the picture. The newest trend that has made its way to headline news: NOSE COVER. What is it? Kids are putting their palms to their nose when they don’t want to be seen in a photo. It seems to be a result of the younger generations being perpetually online. They want any photo of them online to be one they are comfortable with sharing. If they don’t want to take a picture but you coax them anyway, you might be met with a face cover. Will they grow out of this? Probably. Will it still be annoying for all parents everywhere? Yes, very much so. Read more here…
