Are people still flocking to Milton in high numbers? According to U-Haul’s moving index for 2023: no!
U-Haul releases this list every year, using their internal data from across the country to determine the ‘MOST MOVED TO‘ locations in Canada.
The provinces are ranked by population gained (percentage arriving versus leaving using U-Haul trucks.) Alberta made it to number one. They were last in 2022. Ontario took up the rear, down from third the previous year.
What does that mean?
- The list clearly fluctuates from year-to-year; but,
- U-Haul’s stats show that residents are flocked west in 2023, and maybe even left Ontario to do so.

The Top 25 towns and cities were listed, as well. With Alberta rated so highly, it makes sense that Calgary and Edmonton were in the top three, along with Sherbrooke, Quebec. As for Ontario municipalities, Chatham-Kent was the highest, coming in seventh.
Surprisingly enough, Milton did not make the cut. Maybe Milton residents are using different moving companies to a high degree. It could also mean that, despite our reputation for being the ‘Fastest Growing Municipality in Canada’, we didn’t have that same growth last year. Again, that’s all according to U-Haul’s stats for 2023.
