Two people have been arrested following an attempted auto theft in Georgetown last week.
On Thursday December 7th, at roughly 8:50 p.m., the Halton Regional Police Service says a resident noticed someone on his driveway attempting to break into his parked Dodge Ram pickup truck.
When the resident opened the door to his home, the suspect ran to a waiting Mercedes sedan and fled the scene. The resident immediately contacted police and gave officers a description of the vehicle and suspects.
A short time later, an HRPS officer located and stopped the vehicle and arrested two suspects. The suspects were found to be in possession of multiple tools used in the commission of auto theft offences.
25-year-old Bertrand Beaulieu of Montreal, Quebec and 25-year-old Alexandre Jovin of Laval, Quebec have both been charged with the following offences:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Automobile Master Key
- Possession of Break in Instruments
- Possession of Device to Obtain Unauthorized Use of Computer System
Both suspects were held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.

The HRPS have also provided related auto theft safety tips:
- Do not confront someone breaking into your home. Instead, call police immediately.
- Lock the doors to your residence.
- Park high-end vehicles in a garage or have the vehicle blocked-in by another vehicle.
- Do not keep keys at the front door, especially if they are visible through a window.
- Install after-market tracking devices on vehicles such as an Air Tag.
- Have proper lighting and/or cameras installed.
- Report suspicious activity (thieves often scout homes and vehicles in advance).
