A local couple is celebrating a big lottery win!
Wayne and Melissa Genoway of Burlington won a $250,000 top prize with OLG’s Instant Crossword Deluxe.
The two say they have been playing the lottery together since the pandemic as a way of having fun, and this is their first big win.
“I played the ticket while at home and thought I won $50 at first. When I scanned the ticket I thought, ‘OMG’ and went back to check where all the words were placed,” she shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up their windfall.
When Melissa sent Wayne a photo of the ticket, he thought it was a joke at first.
“I phoned her and could tell by her voice it was real,” said Wayne.
“I had a skip in my step all day! It was so special to share this together,” added Melissa.
The pair plan to celebrate with a beach vacation for some relaxation in the sun.
“It’s a happy and exciting time. I was excited my wife got to experience the discovery,” concluded Wayne.
The winning ticket was purchased at Kilbride Country Store on Kilbride Street in Burlington.
INSTANT CROSSWORD DELUXE is available for $10 a play and the top prize is $250,000. Odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.46.
