Magical Lights of Milton is coming back!
Creator David Geall is getting ready for his 14th year of running the annual fundraiser. Every year, he holds a Christmas lights show at his Milton, with more than 35,000 lights synchronized to music. That combination creates an animated holiday display for residents to enjoy with their children and families.
Money raised goes to the Milton District Hospital Foundation (MDHF), which raises money for the Milton District Hospital. Federal government funding only covers brick and mortar costs, so donations help purchase things like medical equipment for staff to use. Geall has raised $93,000 so far, just a few thousand short of his $100,000 goal he set all those years ago.
Geall isn’t afraid to try new things! This year, he’ll be using a Disney-themed music mix to honour 100-years of the ‘House of Mouse’. He’ll also give attendees to pick their favourite songs, and in-turn, help run the show! He talks about these new features, as well as a first-time-ever outdoor speaker!
He first got into doing the lights show because he saw a few on TV and knew someone in Georgetown who does a similar act. He laughs because the technology that Geall puts into his show today did not exist five years ago, let alone when he began a decade ago. The two still talk every single day.
When you hold a Christmas show for what will soon be 14-years, you allow local families to create new holiday traditions! Kids who were just 3-years-old watching his first lights show will soon be going off to college or university. He’s happy to known he’s made an impact in people’s lives, and is excited to continue the tradition on:
The Magical Lights of Milton will launch their event on Saturday, November 25th. Each year, Geall holds a raffle with the winner being allowed to press the button to kickstart the first show. Free hot drinks will also be available, courtesy of Starbucks.
The show runs from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sundays to Thursdays; until 11:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. They will likely run later on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The last show will be on Monday, January 1st.
You’ll be able to watch it at 876 Willow Avenue in Milton. When you’re not jamming out to FM 101 Milton, you can tune into the show at 99.7 FM. They will have a donation box near their signal sign. If you’d like to donate, and you don’t carry cash around anymore, there will also be a tap machine out front that will accept card payments.
