Well, that’s not how they drew it up.
The Milton Menace were looking to avoid a major trap game on Friday, October 27th. The boys were host to one of the worst teams in the West Conference of the OJHL, the Caledon Admirals. The last time these two teams had played each other, the Menace won 10-1. What made the game concerning, however, is that the Menace also had to travel to Collingwood over the weekend to play the first-place juggernaut Blues. It was important to not overlook a struggling Admirals team while preparing for a tough Blues team.
Again, it’s not how they drew it up.
Milton’s Nicholas Wereha opened the scoring on Friday to give the Menace the first lead of the night. His fourth goal was assisted by Tristan Tremble. Milton led the game 1-0 at the first intermission.
Caledon was able to tie the game in the second, and it was 1-1 after 40-minutes of play.
It was then 1-1 after regulation. And after the first overtime period. And the final overtime period. The game had ended in 1-1 tie.
Despite the lack of scoring, the Menace dominated play, outshooting the Admirals 44-16. Ariel Zaslaver was in net for the Menace to give Glen Crandall the night off. He stopped 15 of 16 shots, giving him a .937% save percentage and the tie.
So, after the tie took the air out of the room on Friday night, the Menace then had to travel to Collingwood to face the Blues on Sunday, October 29th.
This was the first time the two teams played each other since the Blues swept the Menace 3-0 in the second round of the OJHL playoffs last year.
The afternoon game at the Eddie Bush Arena, in front of 755 people, did not go well for Milton.
For the sake of brevity, the Menace did not score. The Blues DID score; they scored a lot, actually. The Blues beat the Menace 10-0.
Glen Crandall was in net for all ten goals, stopping 28 of 38 shots. His worst game of the season earned him a .736% save percentage for the day.
Time to reset, as the Menace will have the work week off. They take on the Brantford 99ers at home on Friday, November 3rd. Puck drop at the Milton Memorial Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. Milton Menace home tickets for this OJHL season can be found here.
