The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has arrested a Hamilton man following an investigation into a series of bank robberies around the area.
On Monday, August 28th, a National Bank of Canada on Sheridan Garden Road in Oakville was robbed by a lone male suspect who arrived on a motorcycle, entered the establishment, and demanded cash. No weapon was seen during this robbery.
Just over a week later, on Wednesday, September 6th, at roughly 11:30 a.m., the same location was robbed a second time by the same suspect, who was this time, accompanied by a second male also on a motorcycle. The suspects entered the bank with a duffle bag and demanded cash. No weapon was seen during this robbery; however, one suspect did indicate to employees he had a weapon.
Roughly 20 minutes after the Oakville robbery, a National Bank of Canada on Fairview Street in Burlington was robbed by the same two suspects in a similar manner. No weapon was seen in this robbery.
On Tuesday, October 10th, following an investigation by the 2 District (Oakville) Criminal Investigations Bureau, 28-year-old Isaac Kyei was identified and arrested as the suspect involved in all three robberies.
He has been charged with the following:
- Robbery (three counts)
- Disguise with Intent (three counts)
- Possession of Stolen Property
- Possession of Firearm Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
The second male suspect is still outstanding and has not yet been arrested.
The accused was held for bail and investigators are working with neighbouring police services to determine if the accused and outstanding suspect are responsible for additional robberies in the GTA.
