Culture Days is almost here!
The Town of Milton is once again supporting the annual national celebration once again, which highlights the importance of arts and culture in our communities.
Residents can attend free Culture Days events in-person and online each fall. This year, Culture Days will run from Friday, September 22nd to Sunday, October 15th.
“As a Town, we are proud to work with our partners to provide quality places and spaces for creative activities,” says Kristene Scott, Commissioner, Community Services. “Culture Days is a great opportunity to showcase what makes Milton, and how culture unites us as a community.”
The Town is collaborating with Arts Milton, which presents an award-winning free arts and culture program during Culture Days. A variety of activities will be hosted at the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton.
Local highlights this year include:
- Activities for all to enjoy at FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton (1010 Main St. E., Milton)
- Events this year include the Exclusively Inclusive public art project (gallery opening Wednesday, September 27th, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.) that fearlessly delves into the themes of racism and hate, with the resolute aim of fostering positive change. The gallery will host more work by the remarkable artists who created the 10 murals at Hugh Lane. The evening will also involve an opportunity for dialogue and reflection.
- FOACM will also host South Asian Mommies of Milton Hour (12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 23rd) for a non-stop dance extravaganza. Brought to you by the fabulous South Asian Mommies of Milton (SAMM), the event will celebrate South Asia’s vibrant cultures and traditions through mesmerizing dance performances that will dazzle you.
- Halton named 2023 Culture Days festival hub
- Hubs are local partners that act as a community lead for the festival. From regional galleries to your local culture department, these expert organizations are a friendly face during Culture Days. Learn more on the Halton Culture Days hub page.
- A Place I Call Home
- With more displaced people worldwide, artist Faisal Anwar invites submissions for his new interactive artwork that reflects on the meaning of “home.” Anyone can post a photo on Instagram and tag it with #APlaceICallHomeHalton. The tagged photo will be added to a large-scale installation of photographs in motion and will be projected in various locations across Halton for Culture Days. Milton will showcase the event on its digital display in the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton on Saturday, September 23rd from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- New Culture Days guide – Milton and Halton Parks
- What makes for two perfect days in Milton? For the first time, the Town partnered on a new culture guide to highlight great options for a visit to our area. Our velodrome, arts centre, downtown and more will help visitors and residents absorb more of Milton’s culture. Check it out and plan your visit in time for Ontario Culture Days.
