Sun (Mother of all heat)
Environment Canada is warning Milton residents of a heat wave hitting the area.
A heat warning is in place for Tuesday, July 4th through Thursday, July 6th. This warning is issued when forecast temperatures are expected to reach 31 degrees Celsius or more with overnight temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius for two days, or when a humidex of 40 or higher is expected for two days.
The Halton Region reiterated the warning, saying that the heat is especially dangerous for:
- older adults (over the age of 65), infants and young children, people who work and exercise in the heat, people without adequate housing and those without air conditioning; and
- people who have breathing difficulties, heart problems, kidney problems or are taking medication that increase their heat-health risk.
You can help keep yourself safe by:
- drinking plenty of cool liquids, especially water;
- avoiding strenuous outdoor activities;
- seeking shade from the sun;
- spending time in air-conditioned places, such as shopping malls and community centres; and
- visiting friends and neighbours who may be at risk and never leave people or pets in your care unattended in a car.
If you or someone in your care experiences rapid breathing, headache, confusion, weakness or fainting, please seek medical attention right away.
Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle. Avoid walking your pet outside at peak temperature times.
Here is this week’s forecast, as of Tuesday.
