One of the recent impaired drivers in Halton was identified as an off-duty York Regional Police officer.
On Sunday, June 18th, shortly after midnight, Halton officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision in the area of Dundas Street West and Hospital Gate. As a result of the investigation, 32-year-old Ronald Tisdelle was charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus. There were no injuries.
Detective Constable Tisdelle has been a member of York Regional Police since 2018. He was last assigned to #3 District in the Criminal Investigations Bureau and is currently suspended with pay.
“This is very disappointing,” says Chief Jim MacSween. “York Regional Police takes a firm stance against impaired driving. The alleged actions of this officer do not reflect the values of our organization or the professionalism demonstrated by our members each and every day.”
Remember, driving under the influence is considered a crime in progress. Call 9-1-1 if you suspect that someone on the road is driving impaired.
Here are some signs of an impaired driver provided by the Halton Police:
- Driving unreasonably fast, slow or at an inconsistent speed;
- Drifting in and out of lanes;
- Tailgating and changing lanes frequently;
- Making exceptionally wide turns;
- Changing lanes or passing without sufficient clearance;
- Overshooting or stopping well before stop signs or stop lights;
- Disregarding signals and lights;
- Approaching signals or leaving intersections too quickly or slowly;
- Driving without headlights, failing to lower high beams or leaving turn signals on; and,
- Driving with windows open in cold or inclement weather.
The HRPS says that its officers remain committed to road safety through prevention, education, and enforcement initiatives.
Impaired driving was also covered on an ‘Ask a Cop’ segment with Halton Police Constable Ryan Anderson. Read that here.
