A couple is facing more theft charges after breaking into another business.
On Saturday, June 10th, at roughly 2:45 a.m. a break-in took place at Avalon Fine Jewellery on Lakeshore Road in Oakville. A suspect smashed a glass door and stole a large quantity of jewelry.
On Wednesday, June 14th, Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) officers located and arrested 32-year-old Jarreh Grant of Hamilton and 33-year-old Sarah Skrtich of Hamilton. Investigators also executed search warrants for a vehicle and residence in Hamilton.
The two had been previously arrested in February for stealing from hobby shops around southern Ontario. Read more here.
During the search on Wednesday, police located and seized stolen property including jewelry, as well as four ounces of methamphetamine and a number of butterfly knives and replica firearms.
Grant has been charged with the following:
- Breaking and Entering
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 (2 counts)
- Disguise with Intent
- Possession of Break and Enter Instrument
- Fail to Comply with Order (2 counts)
- Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Prohibited Weapons
- Fail to Comply with Prohibition Order
Skrtich has been charged with the following:
- Breaking and Entering
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 (2 counts)
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Police are also investigating the possibility the accused are responsible for other break-ins in the area and working to identify the rightful owners of stolen property.
