A months-long labour trafficking investigation with links to three provinces has led to four arrests in the Toronto area and Simcoe County.
Provincial police say three Mexican men were allegedly recruited online and promised work permits and well-paying jobs in Canada.
The investigation, named Project FOXTROT, began on February 13, after Police received information of suspected labour trafficking.
Officers say the victims had been housed in a suspect’s basement and in short-term rentals across the country, while they were expected to work at recycling facilities in Ontario, Alberta and Quebec.
Four suspects, 2 from Simcoe County, 1 from Halton and 1 from Etobicoke are facing charges of human trafficking and receiving material benefits from trafficking.
