Three people have been arrested following a traffic stop that led to the seizure of a firearm.
The Halton Regional Police Service says on Wednesday, May 17th, at roughly 1:30 am, an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Trafalgar Road in Halton Hills. A vehicle was observed traveling at a high rate of speed and a traffic stop was conducted in the area of Steeles Avenue and Hornby Road. Three occupants were located in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Grounds were formed under the Cannabis Control Act to perform a search of the vehicle, which led to the discovery of a loaded handgun in a bag inside the vehicle.
A .40 caliber handgun loaded with 8 rounds of ammunition was seized.
26-year-old Justice Warner-Johnson of Pickering, 26-year-old Kye-Shawne Griffiths of Brampton and 26-year-old Amy Lovsin of Toronto have been charged with:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
Griffiths was held in custody pending a bail hearing. Warner-Johnson and Lovsin were released on Undertakings.
