The Milton Menace technically went undefeated this past weekend!
The local Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) team had a back-to-back on Saturday, February 25th and Sunday, February 26th. It started with a road game against the Aurora Tigers at the Aurora Community Centre. The first period saw the Tigers score first, late in the first period, and taking that 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Menace were then able to get on the board in the second period. Connor Driscoll scored at the 2:51 mark. It was assisted by Jared Coccimiglio and Myles Perry. Less than three minutes later, Coccimiglio got a goal of his own on the powerplay. It was assisted by Cole Semeniuk. The Menace led 2-1 after two periods of play.
The third period saw the Tigers get an early goal to tie the game. Both teams tried their best to find the back of the net after, but couldn’t make it happen. It was 2-2 after regulation, and that would be the final score after the two overtime periods.
Will Goumas was in Milton’s net for all 70 minutes of action. He faced 31 shots, stopping 29 for a .935%.
The next game of the weekend was a home game against the Haliburton County Huskies.
HC took the lead in the first period, leading 2-0 after 20-minutes of action.
The Menace quickly readjusted and got both goals back in the second period. Connor Driscoll scored at the 0:59 mark, with an assist from Cole Semeniuk. Two minutes later, Lucas Buzziol got on the board. His tying goal was assisted by Aidan Hughes and Jared Coccimiglio. Directly after those goals though, the Huskies scored back-to-back powerplay goals. Then, 7:23 into the second frame, Hughes got a powerplay goal of his own (with help from Coccimiglio) making it 4-3 Haliburton County. It’d go into the second intermission with that score.
The third period was all Milton, as they’d score three more goals to put away the Huskies. Justin O’Donnell was first, tying the game at the 2:30 mark. It was assisted by Driscoll and Cory Liu. The Menace then took the lead three minutes later, with Driscoll finding twine for the second time in the game. Captain Owen Forester and Liu both got assists. An empty netter then capped off the game, with Buzziol burying an unassisted goal with less than a minute to go. The Menace won 6-4.
Forbes Anderson was the netminder for the Menace on Sunday. He stopped 44 of 48 shots, giving him a .916% save percentage.
It’s the final week of the OJHL regular season! The Menace will play their second last game on Wednesday, March 1st. They will take on the Burlington Cougars. Puck-drop is at 7:0 p.m.
