Two Brampton men have been arrested following a lengthy investigation into the theft of 32 empty enclosed semi-trailers.
The theft happened in a parking lot of a business located in the area of Victoria Street North and Forwell Road in Kitchener on December 2022.
Sometime between December 10th at 7:30 p.m. and December 12th at 6:00 a.m., unknown suspect(s) stole the semi-trailers.
On December 21st, investigators had recovered 12 of the 32 stolen semi-trailers in the Township of North Dumfries and Brant County.
On January 23rd, investigators recovered seven stolen semi-trailers in Halton Region.
On February 9th, investigators completed six search warrants in both Peel Region and Waterloo Region and recovered five stolen semi-trailers.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, police have recovered 24 of the 32 stolen trailers worth approximately $1.9 million.
The total value of all 32 trailers is approximately $2.5 million.
A 42-year-old male and a 29-year-old male, both from Brampton, were arrested and charged with the following:
- Theft over $5,000
- Theft of a motor vehicle (two counts)
- Possession of stolen property over $5000 (four counts)
- Trafficking stolen property
- Uttering forged documents
- Conspiracy to commit
- Possession of obliterated VIN
Both males were held for a bail hearing. No names were provided by the Waterloo Regional Police Service (HRPS).
The investigation is ongoing.
