The Milton Menace couldn’t get the win on Friday night, but they managed to outlast the Stouffville Spirit on Sunday.
The weekend started off with Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Night on Friday, January 27th at the Milton Memorial Arena. The Georgetown Raiders came into town for the game.
The Raider started the scoring, taking a 1-0 lead into the second period. That was when the Menace got on the board. Ivan Fabjan got the goal, with assists from Dylan McFadden and Carson Burlington.
That was it for the Menace.
The Raiders would then score twice in the third period, including a shorthanded goal. Georgetown beat Milton, 3-1.
In net for the Menace was Forbes Anderson. He had a busy night, stopping 33 of 36 shots. That’s a .916% save percentage.
The Menace then had to get ready for another game on Sunday.
The Stouffville Spirit came into Milton to play the Menace at the Milton Memorial Arena.
It was a BUSY first period, as the Menace quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes of action. Lucas Buzziol (assisted by Thomas Gordon and Aidan Hughes) and Jared Coccimiglio (Owen Forester and Justin O’Donnell) scored the pair of goals. The lead was short-lived though, as the Spirit then scored three unanswered to close the first period. It was 3-2 Spirit after 20-minutes.
The second period was uneventful, but the Menace tied the game in the third. Hughes scored his first of the game just 1:29 into the third frame, with assists from Connor Driscoll and Buzziol. It was 3-3 after regulation time.
The first overtime period played in full with no school, so the teams had to play a second sudden death frame. Hughes was the hero this time around, scoring his second of the game, this time unassisted.
Anderson was in net again for Milton, stopping 38 of 41 shots. That gave him a .926% save percentage on the night.
The Menace are 26-13-1-2 through 42 games, giving them 55 points on the season. They’re in fourth place in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) North/West Conference. They’re four points back of the Georgetown Raiders, and six points back of the Burlington Cougars, who have now clinched a playoff spot.
The next game is on Friday, February 3rd when the Milton Menace head to Toronto to take on the St. Michael’s Majors. Puck drop at the St. Michael’s Arena is set for 7:30 p.m.
The next home game for the Menace is on Sunday, February 12th. Milton Menace home tickets for this OJHL season can be found here.
