Today is World Diabetes Day and Sir Frederick Banting’s birthday!
Banting was born in Alliston and discovered insulin with his partner Dr. Charles Best.
The annual celebration of the life saving medication was established in 1991 to draw attention to the global epidemic of diabetes.
This years theme for World Diabetes Day is “Education to Protect Tomorrow.”
It is estimated that 51-million people in North America have been diagnosed with diabetes and 537-million around the world.
