A local telecommunications company employee has been arrested for fraud.
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) Regional Fraud Unit arrested the employee who was working at the Mapleview Shopping Centre in Burlington.
Between November 2021 and February 2022, the HRPS say the employee made numerous fraudulent transactions. These include using bogus information to facilitate sales, the manipulation of point of sales devices and selling cellular devices for cash (which the accused kept for himself).
Due to these fraudulent transactions, more than 120 cellular devices were lost. The monetary value of the frauds is in excess of $185,000.
On Wednesday, November 9th, investigators arrested 24-year-old Amar Abbas of Hamilton. He has been charged with:
- Fraud Over $5000
Abbas was released on an Undertaking.
