You can swap your winter sports gear ahead of skiing and snowboarding season!
The Milton Heights Racing Club (MHRC) in partnership with Glen Eden, is gearing up for the start of the winter season with its popular Ski & Snowboard Swap! The annual event returns this year at a new location Area 8 (formerly known as Kelso Quarry) in Milton, from Thursday, October 20th to Sunday, October 23rd.
The annual MHRC Ski & Snowboard Swap attracts thousands of skiers and snowboarders of all abilities from across the Greater Toronto Area and Golden Horseshoe who are looking to upgrade their current equipment and find something fresh to hit the slopes with this season. The swap also provides a great opportunity for new skiers and snowboarders to purchase equipment, many of whom picked up the winter sport during the pandemic.
“The MHRC Ski & Snowboard Swap is the club’s major fundraiser for the season and it’s a great opportunity for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy some excellent deals on both new and used equipment,” says Milton Heights Racing Club President Mike Henry. “It’s a terrific opportunity for young skiers and families taking lessons at Glen Eden to be fitted for the upcoming season.”
The volunteer-run ski racing club is partnering with Glen Eden, and Oakville’s favourite ski shop, Corbetts, which will be supplying the new equipment including helmets, skis, poles, snowboards, goggles, gloves, and much more. There will also be an assortment of gently used ski and snowboard equipment, and accessories including jackets, pants, poles, and racing suits.
Customers will also have an opportunity to have boots and bindings fit by the Glen Eden Tech Shop for a small fee at checkout, so they will be ready to hit the slopes when the snow arrives later this year.
For people looking to sell their gently used equipment, it can be dropped off at Area 8 on Wednesday, October 19 to Friday, October 21. Sellers are encouraged to register on the MHRC website and to log their equipment inventory online in advance to avoid line-ups at the swap.
In partnership with Glen Eden, this year’s event will be offering some unique experiences:
- An eating area with food trucks and several picnic tables will be on site for anyone looking to enjoy a bite to eat, and,
- All Ski Swap attendees can enter a draw for a chance to win one of three $100 gift cards to Corbetts, or a Family Advantage Pass to Glen Eden.
Those planning to attend the swap are encouraged to sign-up in advance by registering on the MHRC website where they can book a day and time slot to improve the browsing experience, and help the club manage capacity in the building. Guests are welcome to attend the swap without advance registration, but there may need to wait in line during busy times.
Area 8 is home to the restored former quarry that took over 20 years to rehabilitate. The new park is becoming a popular event venue at Conservation Halton given its unique landscape and accessibility.
