The Milton Menace had themselves a great weekend!
The team went into Burlington to take on their cross-region rivals: the Burlington Cougars. The game started strong for Milton, with Lucas Buzziol scoring in the first minute of the game. It was assisted by Owen Forester and Bradley Banach. It was 1-0 after one period.
Marco Iozzo made it 2-0 with a goal nearly 10 minutes into the second period. That was assisted by Blake Riddall and Aidan Hughes. Hughes added a goal himself before the period came to an end. It was 3-0 after 40-minutes of play.
Burlington then scored two quick goals to start the third period. Hughes then added his second of the game, just eight seconds after a Cougars goal. Iozzo and Forester got the assists. Burlington scored a goal just two minutes later, which was then followed by a Menace goal 43-seconds after that. It was Forester with an assist from Dylan McFadden. Connor Driscoll (Iozzo and Aidan Puley) then put the final nail in the coffin to make it 6-3.
Captain Owen Forester ended the game with one goal and two assists, good for three points on the night.
In net, Will Goumas was listed on the boxscore. He faced just 24 shots and stopped 21. That’s good for .875%.
The Menace then came home for a game against the Brantford 99ers on Sunday. The matchup always comes with some emotion as the 99ers are the same franchise that left Milton when they were the IceHawks. The Menace arrived a year later, and immediately brought back some legitimacy that the IceHawks had somewhat lost in their final years.
The game started quick. Aidan Puley managed to pot a goal just 30-seconds into the game. It was assisted by Thomas Gordon and Connor Driscoll. The quick start was not the story of the game, as it would be just 1-0 after one.
The second period would continue to be limited in action, with both teams going scoreless. It was 1-0 after two.
Nearly ten minutes into the third period, Brantford tied the game. That made 1-1, and tied heading into overtime.
The first overtime was for not, so they needed a second extra period. Bradley Banach was the hero on Sunday, scoring a powerplay goal 3:26 into the second overtime period. It was assisted by Luca Rea and Driscoll. The Menace won 2-1 in 2OT.
The boxscore has Christian Trianni has the Menace goaltender for Sunday. He played just under 68 minutes, facing 23 shots and stopping 22 of them. That’s good for .956%.
Coming out of the weekend, the Menace are now 6-0-0-1 on the season. Their 13 points put them at second in the North/West Conference, one point behind the undefeated Collingwood Blues. In the South/East Conference, the Toronto Jr. Canadiens are 7-0-0-1 for 14 points, putting the Menace at the third in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).
