You can take part in a charity golf tournament to raise funds for the Milton Community Resource Centre (MCRC) Empowerment Programs.
The first annual MCRC ‘On the Green‘ event is set for this Friday. Manager of Community Engagement and Partnerships Ashley McTavish says it’s going to be a great day.
She adds that participants will be able to enjoy live music by the band ‘Chopped Liver‘ before and after stepping foot on the green.
The event is designed as a way to fundraise for their Empowerment Programs. These programs are high quality, inclusive, accessible and aim to address the negative impact of poverty and inequality. Empowerment Programs include:
- Infant Food Bank – Providing families a monthly supply of baby essentials such as diapers, formula, baby food, and cereal.
- currently providing essentials for over 95 families and over 115 babies each month
- She Can! Program – Girl centered programs to foster strength, leadership and resilience through hands on activities and thought-provoking discussions.
- In 2021 over 300 girls participated in programs designed to empower and uplift girls in our community.
- Period Poverty Initiative – Aims to improve the mental and physical health of all women by providing period products such as panty-liners, tampons, pads and washable products.
- Currently assisting over 50 menstruaters each month with a healthy period.
Their ultimate goal is to raise $25,000, which will allow them the ability to purchase the required items for Empowerment Programs for up to four months. McTavish says the support from the community is what keeps them going.
Tickets for the On the Green event are going for $225 each or $900 for a group of four. Get your tickets here.
It will be on Friday, September 30th at Granite Ridge Golf Club. Registration and BBQ lunch begin at 11:00 a.m., shot gun start at 12:30 p.m.
