Collision in Milton leads to impaired driving charge

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has provided the latest impaired driving results for the surrounding area.

Within the last week, there were two impaired driving cases reported in Halton; one of them involved Milton.

On Tuesday, August 9th, Halton Police officers responded to a citizen-initiated complaint in the area of Upper Middle Road and Walkers Line in Burlington. As a result of an investigation, a 29-year-old Hamilton man was charged with blood alcohol concentration 80mgs or more, within two hours.

On Friday, August 12th, Halton Police officers responded to a collision in the area of Highway 7 and Fifth Line Nassagewaya in Milton. As a result of an investigation, a 40-year-old Rockwood woman was charged with operation while impaired and blood alcohol concentration 80mgs or more, within two hours.

Remember, driving under the influence is considered a crime in progress. Call 9-1-1 if you suspect that someone on the road is driving impaired.

Here are some signs of an impaired driver provided by the Halton Police:

Driving unreasonably fast, slow or at an inconsistent speed;
Drifting in and out of lanes;
Tailgating and changing lanes frequently;
Making exceptionally wide turns;
Changing lanes or passing without sufficient clearance;
Overshooting or stopping well before stop signs or stop lights;
Disregarding signals and lights;
Approaching signals or leaving intersections too quickly or slowly;
Driving without headlights, failing to lower high beams or leaving turn signals on; and,
Driving with windows open in cold or inclement weather.

The HRPS says that its officers remain committed to road safety through prevention, education, and enforcement initiatives.
