A case of monkeypox has been confirmed in Simcoe Muskoka.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit indicates the individual lives and works mainly in Toronto where he most likely acquired the infection.
He is currently isolating, and close contacts have been notified.
The health unit says the disease does not spread easily however, any person who develops symptoms is advised to seek medical attention.
Monkeypox can affect anyone of any age, gender or sexual orientation.
Currently though, monkeypox is predominantly affecting men who have sex with men.
On June 16th, the province designated monkeypox as a Disease of Public Health Significance.
