Four seats in the Adjala Tosorontio Council Chambers will be noticeably empty following a Notice of Libel, served up by the Mayor of that municipality.
Mayor Floyd Pinto claims Defamatory Words were used by four Members of Council at the March 9 Council Meeting after he was censured in a recorded vote.
Councilors Annette Bays, Jonathan Pita, Deborah Hall-Chancey and Scott Anderson have indicated through a release, they are troubled with the course of action by the Mayor.
They have advised the Township Clerk, they will no longer attend Council Meetings as they feel they have become a toxic environment due to the demands made by Mayor Pinto.
The Councilors say they were acting in the best interest of the Township…..for what they considered to be ongoing unacceptable conduct by the Mayor.
In two separate investigations, The Township’s Integrity Commissioner had established the behaviour exhibited by Mayor Pinto was in contravention of the Code of Conduct.
The Councilors say they feel it is unfair to be subjected to the threat and intimidation of legal action as the censure was supported by the majority of Council.
