Milton Menace fans cheer the team on during 2019-2020 season
In their second season in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), the Milton Menace have clinched their first ever playoff spot.
The Menace entered the weekend with two games to play. They took on the Spirit on Saturday in Stouffville. The game began with the Spirit scoring three goals in the first period. The Menace were able to get one, with Andrew Horsley (assisted by Jordan Stock and Aidan Hughes) scoring eight minutes into the game. It was 3-1 after 20.
James Barbour (Lucas Buzziol and Stock) scored the lone goal in the second period, making 3-2 Spirit after two.
The third period was all Milton though. The Menace scored four unanswered goals in the third period to make it a 6-3 win for Milton. Here’s a quick breakdown of the four goals:
- Owen Forester (Holden Rogers, Ethan Sims) 7:38
- Ryan O Donnell (Holden Rogers, Ethan Sims) 11:20
- Holden Rogers (Ben Hofstetter, Ethan Sims) 13:17
- Holden Rogers (empty net) (unassisted) 18:44
Will Goumas was pulled after stopping just three of six shots in 12 minutes of action. Carter Tahk came in and shut down the Spirit in the rest of the game, stopping 15 of 15 shots for the wim.
The Menace played a second game this weekend, taking on the Markham Royals in Markham.
The first period was all Milton, with the Menace scoring three goals:
- Ethan Sims (James Barbour) 6:13
- Lucas Buzziol (Aidan Hughes, James Barbour) 10:49
- Lucas Buzziol (power play) (Andrew Horsley, James Barbour) 15:56
It was 3-0 Milton after 20 minutes.
The second period started poorly for the Menace. The Royals scored three in a row to tie the game. Andrew Horsley (Barbour and Ethan Sims) snapped the streak, making 4-3. Sims then made it 5-3 before the second period closed. That became the final score, giving the Menace the win.
The Milton Menace clinched a playoff spot, their first in franchise history. They now sit 33-10-0-5 through 48 games. They have 71 points, enough to tie the Burlington Cougars for first in the West Division, and third in the OJHL.
The Menace have most of the week off, taking on the Cougars on Friday, March 18th at 7:30 p.m. at the Central Arena in Burlington.
