UPDATE
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has completed an investigation and updated a previous report.
The investigation involved a series of thefts and break and enters. The suspect stole motorcycles, off-road vehicles (ATV’s, dirt bikes and UTV’s), utility trailers, motor vehicles, and construction equipment and vehicles. The thefts and entries took place between June 1st, 2021 and March 1st, 2022 in Milton and Halton Hills. As a result of this investigation, investigators also identified the suspect as being responsible for an incident in Burlington that occurred on Monday, February 28th, in which an HRPS police officer was dragged for a short distance (see below).
On Tuesday, March 1st, HRPS investigators arrested 35-year-old Timothy Burt of Milton. He has been charged with:
- 15 Counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
- 3 Counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- 7 Counts of Failure to Comply with Probation
- 1 Count of Tampering with Vehicle Identification Number
- 1 Count Flight from Police
- 1 Count Dangerous Operation
- 1 Count Failure to Stop After Accident
- 1 Count Assaulting Peace Officer with Weapon or Causing Bodily Harm
Burt was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Investigators executed search warrants at six locations in Milton and Halton Hills and recovered a significant amount of stolen property valued at roughly $279,000.
This was an exhaustive investigation which required assistance from numerous HRPS resources including: 1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau, 1 District Uniform Operations, Intelligence Bureau, Emergency Services Unit, Forensic Identification Unit, 3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Property Evidence and Management Unit.

The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is asking for the public’s help in an investigation into an arrest attempt that injured an officer.
On Monday, February 28th, at roughly 2:45 p.m., an officer attended a parking lot located at 963 Francis Road in Burlington (in the area of Plains Road East and the QEW). The officer began an investigation into a stolen vehicle parked at that location, and attempted to make an arrest of a suspect inside the stolen brown pickup truck. The suspect resisted and set the truck in motion dragging the police officer a short distance. The officer suffered minor injuries. The suspect’s truck also struck a cruiser and an uninvolved parked car during its escape. Police did not pursue the pickup after it fled the parking lot.
Through further investigation police identified and arrested the suspect.
35-year-old Timothy Burt of Milton has been charged with the following:
- Dangerous Operation
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
- Failure to stop after accident
- Assaulting peace officer with weapon or cause bodily harm
