Milton's GO station building
Milton Council has approved a plan to redevelop Milton’s downtown Mobility Hub.
Policies were passed during a meeting yesterday, to manage growth and development around the Milton GO Station.
The policies will allow for the development of buildings, homes, businesses, roads, sidewalks, and public spaces in the area within a 10-minute walk of the Milton GO Station.
The policy solutions also address building heights, density, land use, parking, urban design, and open space.
“With these new and updated policies, the Town of Milton is in a position to proactively manage growth and build out the area around the Milton GO Station,” says Town of Milton Mayor, Gordon Krantz. “A lot of work has gone into bringing the vision for the Mobility Hub to life, and as a Council, we look forward to seeing this area and others come to fruition to create our future Milton.”
The vision for the development is to create an accessible, and walkable community. This means that housing, offices, stores, restaurants, various transit options (walking, cycling, bus, and rail), and public spaces, will be available within walking distance, while also complementing historic downtown Milton.
“Milton’s vision of a complete community includes reimagining the area focused on the Town’s central GO station to meet the current and future needs of our community,” says Town of Milton Acting Director, David Twigg. “These policies ensure that Milton has an up-to-date planning framework in place to guide the ongoing transformation of the area surrounding the Milton GO Station.”
The vision of this area was made possible through the Milton community’s significant public participation and feedback in engagement opportunities over the past year, and throughout the overall Mobility Hub Study.
