We’re getting ready for some fluctuating temperatures here in Milton this week.
As it stands, Environment Canada is calling for a high of +8 degrees celsius on Wednesday afternoon. That will then be followed by rain, snow and a low of -15 on Thursday night. The up and down thermometer, mixed with precipitation, could lead to some dangerous road conditions.
In the latest edition of ‘Ask a Cop’, Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) Constable and Media Relations Officer Ryan Anderson says residents should be prepared for poor driving conditions.
He adds that it feels ridiculous to tell people in the middle of February to get winter tires. That’s because if people haven’t gotten them yet, they likely won’t. But that being said, he insists that drivers get them to help protect them from poor road conditions.
It’s also best to not leave your home when the weather gets like this. If you’re able to stay inside, whether it’s working from home or putting off unnecessary trips, you’ll be able to avoid any potential collisions.
What should you do if you find yourself in a collision during a snowstorm? Constable Anderson shares the answer.
He reminds residents that motorists are required to ensure that they have a clear view of the road while driving. That means you can’t have a chair from IKEA that you just purchased blocking your windows nor can you have snow and ice obstructing your view of the road. That means motorists need to brush and scrape everything off their windows, front and back, before they start their commute. You can be charged otherwise.
‘Ask a Cop’ will return next week with more of your questions being answered. Reach out if you have any questions that you’d like answered by a local police officer.
