What should you do if you lose something valuable? What if you found something valuable?
Those are questions that Halton Police Constable and Media Relations Officer Ryan Anderson gets often. Whether it’s your wallet or a wedding ring, Constable Anderson says you should check in with your local police station.
He adds that if identification is involved – like for a wallet – then officers will do their best to contact you.
Many have asked in the past if it’s best to bring a wallet to the police or if you should try to bring it to the person directly. Constable Anderson says you could always try to deliver it directly to the person; however, he recommends you use the police as a middle-man.
If you do return something to the Halton Police, do expect to be asked a few questions. Constable Anderson says it won’t take long and the process is more to gather what you know, rather than to be intrusive.
Milton residents can find their local police station at 490 Childs Drive, near the Milton Mall. You can also call them at (905) 878-5511.
‘Ask a Cop’ will return next week with more of your questions being answered. Reach out if you have any questions that you’d like answered by a local police officer.
