The Magical Lights of Milton wrapped up the holiday season with a donation to the Milton District Hospital Foundation (MDHF).
The Christmas lights show is held each year to raise money for the hospital. Organizer David Geall dropped off the cheque of $10,510.00 recently. That brings the grand total of donations to $83,215.00, which has been raised over a span of about 12 years. Geall says it was an uncertain year that ended strong.
He adds that the final week really drove up the donations to help them reach their goal.
It’s been a hard couple of years for a lot of residents, which has seemingly led to an increase in holiday spirit. Being an expert in the field, Geall says Milton shows tremendous spirit during the holidays.
The local paramedic/Christmas enthusiast initially sought out to raise $100,000 for the MDHF. With the goal now in reach, he says the plan is to likely create a new goal so that he can continue to fundraise with his annual lightshow.
Geall has built a good relationship with the MDHF over the years, now knowing nearly everyone in the organization on a first name basis. He believes they might even be one of their top annual fundraisers now, which he chalks up to the Milton residents coming out and supporting the show.
He’s already planning for next year. He says you have start planning as soon as possible because you never know how long items will take to get shipped. He starts the show on the final Saturday of November each year, so he has about ten and a half months until showtime.
