South Simcoe passed the 8,000 case mark for total confirmed COVID-19 infections New Year’s Eve.
There have been 8062 cases since the pandemic began, with 6747 recoveries and 89 deaths.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reporting 197 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Simcoe in the last day (dec 30).

- 56 Bradford West Gwillimbury
- 32 Essa
- 62 Innisfil
- 39 New Tecumseth
37 of the cases were in people 17 years of age and under.
There were 664 confirmed cases in Simcoe County with 256 in Barrie, alone.
There was another 1 case in the health unit where the municipality was listed as pending
There are now 1226 active cases in South Simcoe, up 169 since Thursday (dec 30) with 5 cases in hospital which is up 1.
The health unit also cautions that since the province changed its testing the number of COVID cases reported will underestimate the true number of cases in the community.
With kids aged 5-11 now eligible for vaccine, the health unit still shows 80% of residents of Simcoe Muskoka have had their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine with 75% fully vaccinate.
