Alliston’s emergency overnight shelter has consistently had their beds filled since opening on November 8 for the season.
S.H.I.F.T. formerly known as Alliston Out of the Cold, has seen an increase in homelessness since the beginning of the pandemic.
Jenifer Pergentile the Executive Director with S.H.I.F.T. says the number of people seeking shelter far outweighs the number of beds available.

Pergentile says that number can reach as high as 30 some days.
She says some people do not desire shelter, so volunteers at S.H.I.F.T. provide tents and sleeping bags to make outdoor accommodation more comfortable.
She says they do canvass the South Simcoe area to ensure those without a roof over their heads are safe.
