Miracle on Main Street is returning!
With the COVID-19 pandemic, one of Milton’s biggest annual events has had to take some steps backward to move forward. Last year’s Miracle on Main Street was entirely virtual. This year will remain virtual, but will see the return of the fundraising aspect. Each year, the event collects children’s toys that will then be distributed to children in need.
The Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation (TJSF) kicked things off at Troy’s Diner on Tuesday afternoon. It received its first shipment of children’s toys from Amazon. Foundation president Tiger Jeet Singh Jr. talks about what it means to be back.
While last year’s event was virtual, it did manage to raise an all time high of $275,000 worth of donations. Singh called it a “banner year.” Those donations were raised by the TJSF, the Halton Regional Police Service’s Toys for Tots campaign, and roughly 40 businesses and community partners.
The Regional Councillor for Milton’s Ward 3, Mike Cluett, was on-hand for the first donation at Troy’s Diner. He says the dogged determination of Tiger and the Foundation has carried the event over the pandemic.
Cluett adds that more news is expected to come out and asks residents to not only be supportive but be patient as they work to make Christmas even bigger this year.
As boxes were being stacked in the corner of Troy’s Diner, Troy Newton looked on with a big smile on his covered face. He says it’s always a blast being a part of the event.
