The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is hosting The Power of One exhibit in its headquarters’ lobby.
The Power of One exhibit is put on by the Abraham Global Peace Initiative. It features notable figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Gandhi, Anne Frank, Helen Keller, and Malala Yousafzai – among others – who have each contributed to making the world a better place.
The exhibit is meant to be thought-provoking and to inspire and empower all people to act to make the world a better place. The exhibit forces its audience to ask:
- What would you do if you were in the same situation?
- What choices would you make?
- Would you risk your life to save others?
- Would you speak out?
- How can you help change the world for the better today?
At a launch event, HRPS Chief Stephen Tanner tells FM 101 Milton that fighting racism and prejudice remains a top goal.
He adds that Power of One is able to take a global approach and use a Canadian voice to help fight prejudice. Chief Tanner says it’s important to meet people unlike yourself to gain a better perspective in life.
This is the first exhibit in the Abraham Global Peace Initiative’s Museum for Human Rights collection and will be featured in other communities as well. The Halton Police are the first police district in Canada to host this exhibit.
“The Power of One exhibit showcases that each and every one of us can make a difference if we are just willing to try – it is then that we have the power to make the world a better place,” says Avi Benlolo, Founder and Chairman of Abraham Global Peace Initiative. “Its an honour and a pleasure to be working with the Halton Regional Police Service and Chief Stephen Tanner to promote tolerance, justice and human rights through our new exhibit.”
The HRPS headquarters is located at 2485 North Service Road West in Oakville. The exhibit will be up until November 24th.
