An investigation is underway following an interaction between a Halton Police officer and a person in crisis.
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) says it responded to a residence in Burlington for reports of a person in crisis. This happened at roughly 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17th. Members of the Tactical Rescue Unit attended. A male was barricaded inside a residence. After a period of time that involved communication with the male, officers entered the residence. Once inside, officers were confronted with a male holding “an edged weapon.” An interaction ensued and an officer discharged an ARWEN (Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield). The male was apprehended and transported to hospital with a serious injury.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked their mandate in regards to this incident. No further details will be provided by the HRPS.
