As part of Holocaust Education Week (Sunday, November 14th – Saturday, November 20th), the Milton Public Library (MPL) is hosting a virtual screening of two short films about the Holocaust.
It’s in partnership with the National Film Board of Canada. The MPL is looking forward to residents getting the chance to watch:
- Martha (2020): At 14, Martha and her family were torn from their village in Czechoslovakia and shipped to Auschwitz. A visit to a Holocaust museum ignites painful memories, however, the emphasis is on a tough but rewarding postwar life in Winnipeg, which Martha fondly recalls in this warm, intimate portrait of an unrelenting survivor. This film deals with mature subject matter. Viewer discretion is advised.
- I Was a Child of Holocaust Survivors (2010): This short animation is director Ann Marie Fleming’s animated adaptation of Bernice Eisenstein’s acclaimed illustrated memoir. Using the healing power of humour, the film probes the taboos around a very particular second-hand trauma, leading us to a more universal understanding of human experience.
The screening begins at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 15th. You must register to the event. You can do so here.
