What was initially a pilot project has become a permanent fixture within the Town of Innisfil and has been given a new name.
Innisfil’s Community Fridge project was launch in June of this year (2021) to address the growing food insecurity issue within the community and since then, there have been at least 1300 food items donated to the project.
The idea was make fresh food available to whoever needed it, whenever they needed it, free of charge.
Innisfil Town Council and Town Staff recognized Troy Scott, the owner of Stroud Foodland, as a community builder….he lost his battle with COVID-19 in June at the age
of 48.
The Community Fridge program will be renamed the Troy Scott Community Fridge Project and will expand to possibly include fridges in other locations including Stroud
and Lefroy.
A new fridge will be purchased to replace the original one, which was being borrowed from the Lefroy Banquet Hall, it will also be placed closer to the Rizzardo Health
and Wellness Centre.
The total price of the project is expected to cost $25,000.
