The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting another COVID-19 related death in Essa Township.
The death toll from the novel coronavirus in our South Simcoe now stands at 82.
The health unit reported 15 new cases of COVID-19 in South Simcoe over the long weekend (oct 8-11).

- 7 Bradford West Gwillimbury
- 6 Innisfil
There were 14 in total in Simcoe County over Thanksgiving Weekend.
South Simcoe also passed the 6,000 case mark since the pandemic began.
There have been 6,005 cases with 5,860 who have recovered.
There are now 63 active cases in South Simcoe, down 11 since Friday (oct 8) with 3 cases in hospital which is down 2.
The health unit now shows 86% of eligible residents of Simcoe Muskoka have had their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine with 81% fully vaccinated.
From August 15th to October 9th, the rate of COVID-19 infection among the unvaccinated vaccine-eligible Simcoe Muskoka population is 11 times higher than it is for fully vaccinated population and the rate of COVID-19 hospitalizations is 44 times higher.
