Milton’s Christine Jn.Jacques is now a published poet!
‘Life Like It Is‘ is poetry about healing. She’s been working on it since she was 14-years-old. Describing herself as a shy island girl that moved to Canada at 13, she took to writing as a way to express her thoughts.
Jn.Jacques talks about what she wants the reader to get out of her poems.
She adds that her book is for any adult in the world. The themes of her poems encapsulate the journey that she has taken into becoming a woman, whether it be a powerful emotion such as love or a life experience like becoming a mother. Life is a journey, she writes, whether happy, sad or with conflictions.
Speaking about the moment she first received a physical copy of the finished product, she says it was the perfect reminder of that journey.
In the acknowledgements of the book, Jn.Jacques expresses gratitude to her daughter Tanisha for helping her through the process. She says her daughter was vital to finishing the book because she was there for it all, including helping type out the 111 pages.
Christine laughs because she actually forgot to thank her husband in the acknowledgements. So, she thanked him during the interview.
She’s not done yet. Jn.Jacques says she’s constantly working on new poems and feels there is another project in her. Writing is one of her loves, to the point of waking up in the middle of the night to write down new ideas.
She’s her own toughest critic, and so she is constantly revising. It’s her goal to make sure her emotions and thoughts get across to the reader as closely as possible.
